Democrats to make it harder to drill for our "clean" energy source, Natural Gas

Remember awhile back I said that Natural Gas will be the next energy producer in their sights?

First go after "dirty" coal. Now they are going after what they used to call the clean alternative, natural gas.

This is what we get for voting these anti-American socialists into office.

National debt crosses $12,000,000,000,000

Thanks Congressman Charlie Wilson. You are spending us into debt faster than any time in our history.

My kids really appreciate the debt they'll have to pay back, because of you!

Scrooge was the good guy

Here's a Mises.org story telling us that it was Scrooge and his ilk that actually improved the lives of many poor folks.

It's pure greed that makes us lust after other's money. The fact that the object of the envy has more money than you doesn't make it any less envious.

Pretty sure it's one of the 10 Commandments.

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s."

AND if that one doesn't get it, this one sure does. Ohio's state government needs to read this, because they just stole from us!

Thou shalt not steal.

However, today, along with their constituents, politicians want to confiscate the "fat cats on Wall Street" for making money. This when we have no right to that money.

No wonder Comrade Wilson votes the way he does, I'm beginning to think his constituents are socialists too!

Our bowing President...this guy is an embarrassment

"Beam me up" to run for Congress again...maybe

Let's hope it's in the 6th.

Dispatch story here

He'd be a better Congressman than Comrade Charlie Wilson.

Here are my thoughts on him running in the 6th in a previous post.

Looks like Bob Taft's GOP is back!

It looks like the Ohio GOP is going to enable a tax hike.

They can say what they want, it is a tax hike and it will be the GOP that enables it.

Previous post

I'm beginning to think I'd like to see the GOP start a used car lot, because they are limp wrist-ed negotiators.

Just received a fund raising letter for the House GOP leader bragging about all the House Republicans voting against this tax hike.....yet it's the GOP (this time in the Senate) that will provide the votes to do the tax raising.

This would have been the perfect time to really differentiate the parties.

Here's who runs Ohio: Librarians, Teacher's Unions and Job and Family Services.

I'm too mad to keep typing. Looks like Bob Taft's GOP is back after all.

The cost of money

There are many folks that want to eliminate the penny.

One of the reasons is that it's worthless due to inflation.

NPR story here. (And no I don't sit around reading NPR, this link was sent to me.)

Why don't we stop inflating our money to begin with? We need to wake up to the fact that our government is stealing from us with our inflated money.

Of course the government wants to make money out of cheap material (remember Space's idea to make pennies out of steel?). This way they can mint and print all they want.

If money were made out of silver or copper, the government couldn't print as much.....of course the outcome would be that they couldn't inflate themselves out of debt on your, er...dime.

Congressman Wilson was right!

Joe Wilson, that is.

Remember when Congressman Joe Wilson yelled "you lie" to obama?

Well, of course, he was correct.

Here's the latest lie.

Remember obama's promise to not to sign bills with earmarks included in them?

Here you go, 5,224 earmarks.

Congress sticking their noses where they don't belong again

"With everything going on in the country right now, doesn't Congress have more important things to do?" Bowl Championship Series Executive Director Bill Hancock.

Marketwatch.com story here.

Congress is now trying to tell college football how to handle themselves. Trying to force a playoff.

Yes, this nonsense might keep their minds off of the other dumb ideas the democrats are floating, which is not a bad thing. However, it still begs the question, what are they thinking? How is this any business of the U.S. Congress?

Just like installing solar panels for the city of Athens. None of their business.

Kentuckians dealing with their Coyote problems

If you're a weak stomached animal worshiper, you probably don't want to watch this.

Kentucky is a beautiful state. However, the man with the new fence has more money than most of the Kentuckians I know. They don't have the money to make a fence good enough to keep coyotes out. They are lucky to have the money just to keep their fencing up enough to keep their cattle in.

Enjoy.

Wilson's latest "pat-on-the-back" "news" release

Nothing new here. Just more welfare and wasteful spending that we've all become accustomed to from our Congressman Charlie Wilson.

$600,000 for solar panels in Athens. What I'd really like to know is, how long will it take for these solar panels to pay back this $600,000? And, even if it paid off the day after they are installed, what section of the US Constitution grants the federal government the right to use our money in this manner?

Wouldn't it be better (of course it would) to just let us all keep our own money and we'll create a free economy without government boondoggles like this?

Of course, our congressman would not have anything to brag about if we just took care of ourselves, would he?

One more thing Comrade Wilson. Printing money and throwing it around is not at all helpful. Not even in the short run. Printing more money just devalues the dollar by the same amount printed. There is no new value added. Just more...less valued paper money. At the end of the day, nothing is accomplished except to wreck our currency by your huge debt.

One more thing in addition to the last one more thing: Do you know what "renovate 60 units of affordable housing" means. It means it's not yours. We are going to confiscate money from you and give it to someone that meets some sort of arbitrary government induced and invented threshold. It all comes down to using your money to give to folks that will vote for democrats. In other words, vote buying.

"Dear Friends,

Today I had the opportunity to announce multiple projects in Ohio and the 6th District being funded by the Recovery Act. Both the Ohio Department of Development and the Ohio Housing Finance Agency have released nearly $37 million for rebates and projects across the state.

According to the Ohio Department of Development, the U.S. Department of Energy has approved Ohio’s proposal to use $11 million in Recovery Act funds for the Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program. This program is meant to increase sales of energy efficient appliances, specifically ENERGY STAR qualified products.

Starting in 2010, you and other Ohio consumers can take advantage of significant rebates on ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, and water heaters.

These rebates will help replace over 89,000 outdated, inefficient appliances across the state of Ohio. By significantly lowering our energy and water consumption, we will also be able to lower people’s electric bills—something we can all appreciate.

Additionally, $13 million in Recovery Act funds are going to the State of Ohio’s Energy Program. Specifically, Solar Vision LLC in Athens County is set to receive $631,637. The funding will go toward installing solar panels on four carport structures in the parking lot of the Athens City Community Center.

The construction of these solar panels will create jobs, create energy, and lower costs for the residents of Athens. That’s good for our economy both short-term and long-term. I’m glad to see Recovery Act funds supporting renewable energy.

Finally, According to the Ohio Finance Agency, the State of Ohio is set to receive $13 million dollars in Recovery Act funds to build and improve existing affordable housing units. Within Ohio’s Sixth District, Plains Plaza in Athens County will be awarded $2,013,934 in Tax Credit Exchange (TCE) financing to rehabilitate 60 units of affordable housing.

I’m pleased to see the range of projects being funneled into my district by the Recovery Act. These funds continue to put us on the right track to financial growth and stability.

Sincerely,

Charlie Wilson
Member of Congress
Ohio's Sixth District"

The Ohio GOP, back to the tax raising good ole' days.

Here's the perfect time for Ohio's GOP to stand up and show the state of Ohio that they're now beyond that tax raising that they did in the past. You know, the tax raising that made the GOP base so mad that the GOP lost the governorship and eventually the house.

Now, instead of learning from their mistakes of the past, they want to resurrect Bob Taft one more time and make a deal on raising our taxes again.

Just when our economy and families need the extra money to help them get by. One does not help an economy by confiscating more money from the job creators! You don't help a state by taking money from those that contribute to society and pay taxes on their wages. You definitely don't help a state's economy by taking money from the productive members of society and giving it to the leaches on the state payroll. How does that improve our economy? It doesn't!

Dispatch story here:

"Harris, R-Ashland, has offered to provide five votes to delay the 4.2-percent income tax cut that took effect this year, in exchange for some extras"

What do you mean "offered"? How about just saying that the Senate Republicans do not believe that raising taxes on what working families we have left in Ohio is a wise or fair thing to do. Also, raising taxes on businesses is a completely insane thing to do when we actually want them to hire people. Let me explain this a little more for you tax raising Republicans in the Senate. Employers can't afford to hire more workers if they are spending their money paying taxes.

I'm not much for term limits, but since Ohio has them, how many more years does Harris have left?

Reforming construction laws in Ohio is a great idea, who's time came about 100 years ago. Why didn't the GOP tackle this when they had...let's see....the House, the Senate and the governorship???
Now we want to make deals to make this happen and our negotiating position is trading away a (GOP) promised tax cut? Give me a break!

Yes, a delayed tax cut is a tax increase! Our state government's promises are no good.

Comrade Wilson speaks, and it's not pretty

"Though this war has been going on for almost a decade, this is the first time we will be investing the resources needed to finally eradicate the very real terrorist threats in the region."

Congressman Charlie Wilson, 12/2/09

So, we haven't been giving enough resources to Afghanistan in the past? This is the first time I've heard him say this. Why wasn't he using his influence to change this perceived policy failure? Why is he just now realizing this? Comrade Wilson has been in Congress since 2006 and this is the first time he's discovered this fantasy? Why wasn't he pushing for more troops in Afghanistan in the past? Or is it no more than he's reading the obama talking points that were handed to him? That's probably more like it.

From the Marietta Register

Wilson Issues Statement Following President's Afghanistan Address

December 2, 2009

After listening to the President outline his plan for Afghanistan, Congressman Charlie Wilson (OH-6) made the following statement:

"I support the President’s strategy as we move forward with the War in Afghanistan. I trust our Commander in Chief, General McChrystal and our military professionals out in the field. If they need additional support, I feel it is our duty to provide our soldiers with the tools they need to stay safe and achieve success. I believe the President outlined an effective strategy to stabilize Afghanistan and set a reasonable timeline to get our troops back home. No doubt our tactics will adjust as conditions change, but the President’s speech underlined the continued danger of an unstable Afghanistan. Though this war has been going on for almost a decade, this is the first time we will be investing the resources needed to finally eradicate the very real terrorist threats in the region. I feel confident that this strategy was made with our nation’s long-term security in mind."

Debbie Phillips bragging about raising your taxes

$871 million gap in the state's current biennium budget by delaying the final phase of a planned tax reduction until 2011, Phillips said. The state would raise about $844 million in revenue, she noted.

Story here.

One more example of why you should never trust the government. Promising to reduce tax rates after raising them somewhere else.

However the reduction part is incremental over time. That's pretty handy when a government made "crisis" evolves and we "need" more of your money. We just won't give you the tax cut we promised.

By the way, the tax increase is in full effect.

Never trust the government when they tell you they'll cut your taxes over time. They lie. Even if they keep their word (laughing), the money is artificially inflated by same government, making it worth less.

Yes, I know that the CAT tax had to be incremental due to loss of funding if we just "gave" all the tax money back to the people all at once. Right. Here's the reason why governments make tax cuts gradual over time. So your attention will be elsewhere when they cut the promised tax cutting short.

Never trust the government. Especially one (Ohio) some in bed with the teacher's unions that they can't take care of their own citizens needs....like letting them keep their own money.

Does no one care that Texas and Tennessee are filling up with ex-Buckeyes?

Who wants to wager that we'll never see the "final phase of a planned tax reduction"?

Athens County democrat party ethics V? Can't keep up.

Athens County democrat Chairman-woman-person-??(can't keep up with what's politically correct now) Susan Gwinn indicted in the latest vote buying scheme.

Athens News story here.

Previous posts here.

Amen, Brother. Who cares what the ORP thinks?

Couldn't have said it any better, though I've tried a few times myself, here and here.

I do believe the ORP would rather lose than support a conservative. Well, I know it's true. If it were not true, they'd be talking to DeWine to remove his name from the AG race, not Yost.

If DeWine wins the primary, conservatives are going to support the more conservative candidate in the general, regardless of party, which would be Cordray.

Where are the deer hunters?

I've spent most of today in the woods hunting. I've noticed, over the last 5 years, a real reduction in shots fired during gun season.

Why? There are more deer than ever. Just look at front end of many SE Ohio resident's cars and see how many deer are hit every year. We can't even get our vehicles completely repaired before we damage it again by hitting another deer.

So, back to the lack of shots heard......this logically results from a lack of hunters.

And again I asked WHY?

I'm going to toss out a theory and someone can disagree and (hopefully) prove me wrong.

The men of Ohio have turned feminine. They want to talk about all they can do while in a warm restaurant drinking warm coffee (with cream and sugar, of course).

Let me give this guy a little advice. Wives only think it's cute for you to lay around and hold babies and puppies for a little while. Pretty soon, they really do want you to act like a man, not a nanny.

The only hunting they do is for the remote. Then, they might watch a hunting show if they don't find Will & Grace first.

I wonder how many dads took their children hunting today? I doubt many did.

Do us all a favor tomorrow. Turn off the stupid (yes this includes FOX) TV, get outside and kill a deer or two. This might require that you get some blood on your hands, just like our ancestors did. It won't hurt you one bit. At the end of the day, you might feel that old friend called Testosterone in your blood stream again.

Here's what you really need to be doing.

Was that too rough?????

Meigs County should be most grateful they are unemployed

Or at least, that's what the EnviroNazis think you should think.

The injustice of artificially low interest rates

The Cruelest tax of all

AMP not building coal plant in Meigs county

Cleveland.com story

If you don't like high electric rates, you need to put the blame where it belongs. Not with AMP or AEP, but with the EnviroNazis, from obama on down.

Same goes if you or a family member are unemployed.

Next stop for the EnviroNazis? Protest natural gas.

The Nazis don't care who does not have jobs....all they care about is having a cause and "doing something". They do not care about the people.

If they really cared about the "environment", they'd disconnect the electricity from their homes and live like the cavemen they want everyone else to become.

Makes one wonder how long it will take for a new coal powered plant to be built across the river in West Virginia to take up the slack.

Where's Ted Strickland and Debbie Phillips. They paid lip service to the proposed AMP plant, but I can't find where they really pushed AMP to build it.

democrat deficit spending our kids into bankruptcy

Why is it the media seem to want to make our government a monarchy? They can't seem to grasp the fact that the president is not all powerful.

Here's a story about Obama's spending. However, it's the democrat congress (just like in the late 70's) that is authorizing this massive spending.

They deserve most of the credit of this outrageous spending.

Of course, our Mistake-in-Chief is not vetoing any spending bills either.

Jeanette Moll is right again

Below is a recent note to Jeanette's email subscribers.

Apparently I don't have to even think anymore on who to vote for in primaries. Whoever the RNC / ORP support....well, I'll usually support the other...as both organizations have a tendency to push who they "think" can win, not who is the more conservative.

Previous post on Moll / Gibbs.

Dave Yost and Jeanette Moll are both unembarrassed conservatives. Mike DeWine is only a Republican when campaigning. I have no idea about Bob Gibbs.

Makes you wonder sometimes if the ORP / RNC are run by closet democrats.

RECENT LIMITATIONS ON MAMMOGRAMS PROVIDE GLIMPSE INTO THE NEXT STEP FOR ZACK SPACE'S GOVERNMENT HEALTH CARE PROGRAM

The Titanic is steaming ahead and the iceberg is in sight. Will we ignore the warning signs and pretend the collision won't do much damage?

The Titanic in this case is the $1.3 trillion government health care program passed this month with the support of our liberal Democrat congressman, Zack Space. Space's program will increase the role of the federal government in your day-to-day life. The iceberg is the massive power transferred to bureaucrats who will eventually determine what medical services we can get. Like the tip of an iceberg, Space's program doesn't look scary at first glance, but the danger runs far.

This week, the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, which included no cancer specialists, issued a report recommending that long-time guidelines for breast cancer screening be reversed. They said most women under 50 shouldn't have a mammogram, thus eliminating the use of the best tool we have to detect breast cancer in its beginning stages. The panel then told women age 50 to 74 to only get mammograms every other year, instead of every year. The panel also determined that there's no cost benefit for elderly women to have mammograms at all.

The cruel irony of this heartless decision being announced this week was made clear by the passing of Stefanie Spielman. Stefanie raged a courageous battle against breast cancer for more than a decade, while raising awareness and millions of dollars for research to find a cure. Sadly, Stefanie left her husband, Ohio State football standout Chris Spielman, to raise their four children alone.

Like most Ohioans, my own life has been touch by the struggles and losses caused by breast cancer. I'm thankful that my aunt is a survivor but have also experienced the devastating loss of one of my best friends and another aunt.

What's most troubling about the federal panel's recommendations is that they are based mainly on cost saving. This is a harbinger of things to come, given Zack Space's support of the controversial legislation that will invite federal bureaucrats to use similar cost-saving measures to affect your family's health care.

Zack Space and his liberal Democrat cohorts in Washington say they want to provide more health coverage to millions of Americans, a worthy goal if only there were money available to pay for it. Because the federal government doesn't have that money, panels like the one reducing mammograms will undoubtedly try to cut costs by limiting other medical procedures.

Congresswoman Candice Miller of Michigan noted that when cost is considered, the question becomes "why have all these mammograms because it is very costly, they could test 2,000 women and only one is positive. I guess it doesn't matter. If you're the one, it matters." Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee went further, pointing out "This is how rationing begins...and this is where we start getting a bureaucrat between you and your physician."

James Thrall, a Harvard medical professor and chairman of the American College of Radiology said, "I fear we are entering an era of deliberate decisions where we choose to trade people's lives for money."

And if you don't think the Zack Space government health program will lead to a complete government takeover of healthcare, you need only to recall the promise made by Zack Space's friend and ally, Barack Obama. Speaking to the labor union AFL-CIO in 2003, Mr. Obama said "I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care program ... a single-payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that's what I'd like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House."

Now that Zack Space and Barack Obama have their Democrat majorities in place, they can finally achieve Mr. Obama's government run health care. The only thing standing in their way is us -- you and me. We cannot afford for medical decisions to be treated as merely a matter of dollars. We must turn the ship around.

As always, you can learn more about my campaign, and you can donate, at www.MollForCongress.org

The sick choices of socialized medicine

This is just the beginning of macabre questions and debates.

Marcy Kaptur Democrat congresswoman from Toledo is trying to decide if it's better to kill babies or let folks die because they have no health care.

What kind of a sick world will this become when the government starts making these choices for us?

Um, Doc, can we go ahead and pull the plug on this 81 year old.....we have a27 year old over here that needs his liver!!!

"It creates a real dilemma for me," she told a Plain Dealer reporter just off the House floor. "The question I've been asking myself is, under which option do you lose more -- how many abortions occur a year, versus how many people die from no insurance every year?"

Napolitano Warns Against Anti-Muslim Backlash

Fox News story here:

Yep, we should worry about a backlash. The Muslims are engaged in a war against this country and we want to be careful not to get them upset.

They've flew airplanes full of people into buildings full of people, they cut off heads, they walk into crowds and detonate explosives, they enlist in our armed forces and kill our soldiers from the inside.

Yet, we don't want to upset them.

It's time we kicked them out, back to their beach front property in Arabia.......just like the Spanish did the Muslim Moors. Spain finally got to the point where they worried about their own country and religion more than the feelings of those killing them.

Of course, it's hard to do this when our country's president is a muslim as well. We shouldn't expect any tough actions against this satanic religion while we have an ardent in office.

athens county democrat ethics III

Here's another episode in the Athens County democrat ethics scandals. This time paying $5 per vote if voter is from the 4th ward in Athens.

I'm attaching links and don't have time to comment right now....too busy working....someone has to pay for all of societies' leaches.

Athens "News" story here.

Election Journal post here

athensrunaway blog post here

The Ohio GOP press release about this issue below:

For Immediate Release Contact: John McClelland
(614) 394-3456
(Columbus) - Ohio Republican Party Chairman Kevin DeWine called today on Gov. Ted Strickland to demand the resignation of his Athens County Democratic Party chair amid allegations of vote fraud.

The Athens Post reports the party is under investigation for "scheming to pay Ohio University students $5 for each 4th Ward resident brought to the polls for early voting," prompting questions about whether money was being exchanged for votes.

According to the Athens Post, prosecutor Dave Warren said, "I think it smells like the Democrats are trying to buy an election."

Party Chair Susan Gwinn was recently indicted by a grand jury for money laundering and theft in office.

"Gov. Strickland said he would enforce a higher standard, so he should start by demanding the resignation of his corrupt Athens County chair," said DeWine. "The governor talks a big game when it comes to cleaning up his own house, but, unfortunately, he'll probably turn a blind eye to the alleged fraud in Athens County just like he's done with the scandal in Cuyahoga County."

Strickland has been silent on Gwinn's indictment, and he has refused to call for the resignation of two Cuyahoga County commissioners targeted in an FBI corruption probe, which has also implicated the treasurer of the Ohio Democratic Party.

"Whether it's allegations of vote fraud in Athens or corruption in Cleveland, Ted Strickland is all talk and no action. It's kind of like saying you're going to turn around Ohio's economy but then losing 340,000 jobs."

The insanity of minimum wage laws

Mises.org story here

Barry Orwell

Orwellian talk is alive and well.

obama says he created OR saved (you can't qualify this, so you can put any number you want after "saved") 1 million jobs.

However, the unemployment rate is the highest it's been in 26 years @ 9.8%. Remember, this 9.8% is just the number of people on unemployment. It does not count those that have "timed out" of our socialist system. Some speculate that the real number of unemployed is around 25%.

So, I can say, with a straight face (since the media is letting barry do it) that I saved 20 jobs yesterday. No, you can't measure it and I can't prove it. However, it sure works when bad unemployment numbers come out and I can use this to deflect some of the criticism....with, of course, the lap dog media.

When the stories should be about verifiable unemployment numbers increasing. The media use barry's spoon fed story about creating or saving jobs as a headline, then put the real story buried deep in this story about unemployment rising. Even Fox News fell for this one.

On another note, how did barry "save" these jobs? Put it in a different but still accurate perspective. What would you think if I stole $25,000 from you and gave it to others (you know, my friends and supporters) and called it "saving" jobs. That's exactly what Charlie Wilson and our mistake in chief has done to you and your kids / grandchildren. We'll be paying for his payoff of his supporters with your money for generations.

Why not an abortionist?

Below is a story about Ohio having a little difficulty finding professional help with their executions. Here's an idea. We know one group of "physicians" that have no qualms about violating the Hippocratic oath. They've thought of all kinds of creative ways to kill people. I'm sure they can find a way to kill a grown man, tied to a gurney and actually outside of the womb.

The strange thing is, for some reason we want to be "humane" in how we kill killers, yet we could care less how we kill innocent babies.

Ohio struggles to find doctors to offer execution advice

COLUMBUS -- Finding medical professionals willing to advise Ohio on the best way to put condemned inmates to death is proving difficult because of ethical and professional rules, the state's top attorney said.

The rules -- which generally prohibit doctors, nurses and others from involvement in capital punishment -- are deterring those professionals from speaking publicly or privately about alternatives to the state's lethal injection process, Attorney General Richard Cordray said.

"A small number of promising leads have emerged, but identifying qualified medical personnel willing and able to provide advice to the state regarding lethal injection options continues to be challenging and time-consuming," Cordray said in the Friday filing in U.S. District Court.

Sweet gun

If you are thinking about buying your son or grandson a pistol (if not you should be, unless you actually want to raise a pansy democrat), here's the perfect .22 caliber pistol.

Walther also makes a gun almost identical to this except in the .380 caliber, making it almost suitable for a concealed carry gun.

I can attest to the fact that this gun (P22) is very reliable and accurate. You can ask one of the squirrels in my freezer.

Meigs democrats and Cordray

Pomeroy Daily Sentinel story below.

A couple of thoughts.

  1. So Cordray is pro-death penalty as well as pro-gun? Yet the Ohio GOP wants us to support Mike DeWine for the Republican Attorney General nominee over Dave Yost? This makes absolutely no sense. Cordray is no raving lunatic typical democrat. Mike DeWine and his anti-gun voting record will have no chance against Cordray. And, well, why would republicans vote for a pretend republican that sounds like Ronald Reagan when he's campaigning, but votes like Ted Kennedy when we was in Washington? The Ohio GOP must think we can't remember when DeWine was our Senator. Dave Yost is the only choice for the GOP nomination. If we're voting in a GOP primary, I suspect that people will vote for the real GOP member, not the fake.
  2. Remember when Debbie Phillips was running for the 92nd district and every other word out of her mouth was "Ted Strickland" this or that? Why doesn't she remind everyone that she and Ted are tied at the hip now? Could it be she doesn't want to have the same fate he will have at the polls in 2010?
BTW, this is another story / example of the media just taking the dems talking points and making a story out of it...passing it off as news. However, it's hard to blame poor Brian Reed.....he's the reporter and photographer for most of the stories in the Sentinel. If he's like most Meigs countians, he'd rather be doing almost anything than sitting through a democrat dinner.

Cordray keynotes Kennedy Day dinner; A.G. back from Supreme Court arguments in Spizak case
by Brian J. Reed

MIDDLEPORT — Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, just back from arguing a Cuyahoga County murder case before the U.S. Supreme Court, addressed Meigs County Democrats Saturday at the party’s annual Kennedy Day Dinner.

State Rep. Debbie Phillips, D-Athens, introduced Cordray. Party Chairman Henry Hunter served as master of ceremonies at the Riverbend Arts Council.

Cordray appeared before the Supreme Court panel on Oct. 14, to argue that the death sentence of a man convicted in a Cleveland triple murder should be reinstated. It was Cordray’s first time before the U.S. high court as Ohio’s lead attorney, but not the first in his career. He argued five other cases before his election to state office.

Frank Spizak, described by the Associated Press as a flamboyant neo-Nazi, was convicted of murdering three men at Cleveland State University 25 years ago.

Cordray told justices during oral arguments that Spisak had a fair trial and deserves death and urged the high court to reverse a federal appeals court ruling that found Spisak's trial lawyer was ineffective and that his jury received faulty sentencing instructions.

The Attorney General used his experience last week as an example of the work he does as Ohio’s top legal official. His office oversees the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, and he also discussed the close relationship between state and local law enforcement, training programs and undercover investigations.

Cordray also promoted the AG’s office’s consumer protection services, and the toll-free number consumers can call if they feel they have been subject to consumer fraud: (800) 282-0515.

In her remarks prior to introducing the Attorney General, Rep. Phillips focused on signs of economic recovery in the region, but also acknowledged the impatience of some that the economy has not recovered sooner.

She noted that all three districts will receive extra state funding and stimulus money, and that recent legislation relating to school funding has placed Ohio’s public schools “on track to being constitutional.”

Phillips noted that the final phases of the Nelsonville Bypass, which got under construction last week, are the largest state transportation project funded by federal stimulus funds, and noted recent permit approvals for the American Municipal Power plant to be built in Meigs County is another sign of economic progress.

Hunter pointed to a reduction in home foreclosure rates and a recent boost in the stock market, and commended President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders for their work in advancing the cause of universal health care.

Swine flu is Obama's fault

Remember when the democrats and the media tried to blame the lack of flu vaccines on G. W. Bush in 2004?

One example here.

Why aren't they blaming obama for the current flu "epidemic"?

Now it's just a "limited supply".

Is the Ohio GOP going to blow another one?

Are they going to force Mike DeWine on us? Especially when we have a great candidate in Dave Yost?

Yes, the same Mike DeWine that is anti-gun. Do the establishment GOP think we are so stupid that we can't read the American Rifleman and see that the NRA will endorse Richard Cordray....especially if running against DeWine? Is the establishment GOP dumb enough to think that we'll just vote for DeWine because he's a Republican (RINO)? I believe they are and I don't think we will.

If it's DeWine vs. Cordray, Cordray wins......unless it's 1994 all over again. I just don't see pro-gun voters voting for a pretend Repbulican when they have a pro-gun candidate to vote for.

All of this is why it's important that Dave Yost raises money. The GOP in Columbus wants Dave out and Mike in. Yes, it's a wonder they win any elections.

Dave Yost is pro-gun, pro-life and pro-death penalty. Sounds like a great attorney general candidate to me!

Dave is having a fund-raiser in Athens here's the invitation. If you can't make it, you can donate to a conservative candidate in Dave Yost. See below.

Dear Friends,

We sense a growing enthusiasm that our Republican Party is poised for a strong comeback in next year’s elections. People like the idea of a "Fresh Start" statewide ticket, and we fully expect Dave Yost to be part of it.

Dave Yost is in his third term as Prosecutor in Delaware County, just north of Columbus. In the race for Attorney General, Dave has already visited over 70 counties this year.

Dave’s campaign is about returning the Attorney General’s office back to the basics of law and order. The race for Ohio’s top law enforcement job is all about justice for Ohio families. As a working prosecutor, Dave’s record demonstrates that he knows how to get the job done.

Please join us as we welcome Dave on October 13th to our home. Details are as follows:

FEDERAL FUNDS AVAILABLE TO HELP SEPTIC SYSTEMS

I wonder why the federal government thinks its their job to make sure septic systems are working? Is there anything the federal government is not involved in?

Here we have Congressman Zach Space ensuring those that don't keep their septic systems in working order.....get some of your money to fix it.

And those of us that keep our septic systems pumped and in working order.....well, you get to pay for those that don't.

Sort of like bank bailouts.

Could someone please show me, in the Constitution, where spending federal tax dollars on local septic tanks is allowable?

Another dead coyote

How I'm voting on the statewide issues

Issue 1: NO, this does not belong in our state's Constitution, which is a long term document. This issue deals with a temporary situation. When the temporary situation is over, the amendment will still be in the Constitution. Our state's Constitution should be for long term guidance, not short term desires.. Also, Ohio can't afford to go $200,000,000 in debt, no matter how noble the cause.

Issue 2: Reluctantly YES. reluctantly because the need for such an amendment is stupid. However, the lilly livered animal worshipers will spend and spend until they make us all meat free. The main problems I have with this Issue is: If it's really to circumvent a threatened "humane" society push for another ballot initiative to really make it difficult to farm in Ohio......why give the "humane" society a seat on this board at all? The "humane" society is about as un-Ohioan as they come. We shouldn't codify their existence in our Constitution. You see why I said reluctantly.

Issue 3: NO, we do not need further / expanded gambling in Ohio. There are many reasons one should oppose this social leach of a vice. The most recent example of the corrosiveness of gambling is watching our Governor. He was once 100% against gambling...very recently. However, the empty promise of millions of dollars from gambling to fund the state government has made our use to be devout anti-gambling Governor start rolling the dice with our future. One of the only things I agreed with Mr. Strickland with was this issue, until he did an about face. It's a sad thing to behold.

Here's a link with the ballot language and the (official) pros / cons of each initiative

It's Jimmy Stewart's fault

No, not our State Senator. I'm referring to the actor. He's the cause of our financial problems. Or at least, the thought process that he espoused in "It's a wonderful life".

He didn't have enough money in the bank to pay his obligations. (just like our modern banks) Yet, for some reason, we think he's the good guy in this movie.

If we had a few more Mr Henry Potters in this country, we never would have had our banks fail.

One last thing, we need to get rid of the government run FDIC insurance. Why should the banks be good stewards with your money when they know the government (taxpayers) will bail them out after they make risky decisions.

Obama, the Marxist coddler

Again, Obama and his pal Marxist Chavez need to keep their collective (pun intended) noses out of Honduras' business.

If any crime deserves the death penalty, it's this one

So, of course, it's plea bargained to life with a chance for parole!

"POMEROY — Charles Williams admitted to the robbery and murder of Doris Jackson, a longtime family friend, to a three-judge panel Wednesday.

Jackson was reported missing from her Tuppers Plains home in late February. Three days later, her body was found in her dining room beneath a pile of her personal belongings. Her car, stolen along with firearms, jewelry, cash and other items, was recovered at an apartment complex on Richland Avenue in Athens.

Jackson was strangled and bludgeoned to death. When investigators discovered her body, her throat had been cut and her hands bound with a telephone cord. Williams admitted yesterday that he, alone, was responsible for Jackson’s death, but said Garnes had helped plan the robbery which went awry on Feb. 23, and that two others had transported him to Jackson’s home and helped dispose of evidence of the robbery and murder.

Only Williams and Garnes have been charged in the case."

WHY? I hope that names were supplied to law enforcement on these two before any plea bargain was agreed to.

Williams deserves the death penalty, Garnes needs life without parole and the unnamed other two need life sentences.

Jimmy Stewart vs Charlie Wilson vs Jim Traficant vs Dennis Spisak

I've been doing some thinking recently about the 6th district and our disastrous Congressman Charlie Wilson.

Then with Jim Traficant's release from prison and his admittance that he is thinking about running for Congress....that would make an interesting race. One that could be won by a Republican.

You'd possibly have:

I: Traficant
G: Spisak
R: Stewart
D: Wilson

Who but Jimmy Stewart would come out ahead at the end of that race?

Here's why:

Traficant will pull votes from the northern counties. Especially among the so called Reagan Democrats and union members. If he could pull just 10% of the vote in the northern counties, that would be a game changer.

Dennis Spisak
pulled 2% of the vote in 2006 and 5% in 2008. 3 reasons why he'll do better this year if he runs:

  1. In 2006 the loons on the left wanted to vote for Strickland over the "evil" conservative Ken Blackwell. Wilson benefited from Strickland's coat tails. This gubernatorial election will not be so great for the socialists' chances. Especially since Kasich is already leading Strickland and the primaries haven't even happened yet! This leads me to believe that any obligation to vote for the democrat because he has a chance to win will be out the window. The green, earth first, "humane" society, tree huggers, car haters, coal haters, etc... will be free to vote their consciences. These people will vote for Spacick. Also, in 2008 Obama was on the ticket and dems were fired up to vote for him....for some reason....this brought lots of democrat voters to the polls. This is not the case now.
  2. Spisak is on the ballot as a Green candidate. Not an independent. The above mentioned list of freaks will know who to vote for (if they have a question about who the green's are endorsing) because he's on the ballot as a Green candidate.
  3. Charlie Wilson voted against the Cap and Tax bill. This enrages the loony left and then numbers 1 / 2 (above) come into play. Wilson's vote will give votes to Spisak in Athens and the commune communities around Amesville and other coal hating folks in the 6th.
Jimmy Stewart will do well in the southern counties (where he is well known and liked) and will pick up the GOP vote in the northern counties. If all he had going for him was this, he could win this under these circumstances. However, considering in one of the worst years to run as a Republican 2008, the GOP candidate (Richard "Dick" Stobbs, former Belmont County Sheriff) received 33%.....this was a candidate that was little known and little financed....under the absolute worst conditions the GOP candidate still received 33%. In 2006, Chuck Blasdel (former Ohio House member from the 1st district) received 38% of the vote against Comrade Wilson. Another little known and little financed candidate....and a bad year for Republicans.
So given that Jimmy Stewart is well known in his former House district and that he just won the 20th Senate district, he is a known entity with lot's of name ID. He also is rated A by the NRA and is endorsed by the Ohio Right to Life organization. Yes, the 6th district is a conservative district. Which is why Charlie Wilson pretends to be one.
All this being said, Jimmy Stewart should receive as a base vote around 40-42%. Then depending on his fundraising and campaigning, adding to that. Which he is a fund raiser and campaigner.

Which brings us to Charlie Wilson. Comrade Wilson has both the left and the right mad at him. (search Charlie Wilson on this blog and you'll see what I'm talking about) His vote for the so called "stimulus" bill has lost him support on the right. (remember, he pretends to be a conservative) and his vote against the Cap and Tax bill has the left angry with him. The only group he'll really be able to rely on are the dems that vote dem because, well they've always voted that way. Traficant will eat into this group up north.
This on top of the fact that he's never had to really fight to keep his job. Does he really even know how to campaign? He had to run as a write-in in 2006's primary due to not collecting 50 valid signatures for his petition.

So, if Jim Traficant were to run in the 6th district as an Independent, I do believe Jimmy Stewart would have a very good chance of winning. Due to the Spisak getting 7-9% and Traficant getting 1-2%. The assumption being (I think it's a fair assumption) that most of these votes would come from Wilson. If Stewart were to keep the 40% base and possibly add to it, it would turn to the GOP column.

I also think he'd have a decent shot even if "beem me up" were not to run. Looking as it does right now that 2010 could be a good GOP year.

One last thing. Can you imagine the attention a race like this would draw?

Jimmy Stewart running against ex-con Jim Traficant running against Charlie Wilson (I'm not Joe Wilson, or Charlie Wilson for that mater, but I voted to increase our national debt by the trillions) running against loony Spisak!

Comrade Charlie Wilson bragging about paying people not to work

My comments in red

Dear Friends,

Earlier this week I voted to extend unemployment insurance benefits to those hit hardest by the recession. H.R. 3548, the Unemployment Compensation Act of 2009, will extend unemployment benefits by 13 weeks to workers in high unemployment states (thank you Ted Strickland and Ohio's high taxes....which are used to pay for unemployment.....a little chicken and the egg thing) who are about to run out of benefits. It overwhelmingly passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 331-83.

Ohio is currently facing a state average of 10.8% unemployment (641,000 jobless workers) (partially because we continue to pay people not to work, why look for a job?), with over 11,000 jobless workers expected to run out of unemployment at the end of September. In Ohio’s Sixth District, the unemployment rates range from 9.5-16.6% as of August 2009. This extension will ensure that these workers will be able to continue providing for their families. (it also ensures that some of them will not look for work, since they are being paid not to....)

In these tough economic times (because of your spending and Ohio's high taxes), extending unemployment benefits is one of the most efficient and fast-acting ways to stimulate our local economies. (or taking money from those that work and giving it to those that don't) According to Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody’s Economy.com, an independent economic research firm, every $1 spent on unemployment benefits generates $1.63 in new economic demand. (this has got to be the dumbest thing I've heard even Charlie Wilson say. If paying people not to work gives a 163% return on the investment, why not ban jobs altogether and pay everyone not to work!) The families receiving these checks are going out in their communities and paying for groceries, filling their cars up with gas, and buying school supplies.

And one thing I want to note, this bill will not add to the deficit. As a Blue Dog Democrat, this is very important to me. (you've got to be kidding me! after voting for the stimulus bill? He actually claims he's against adding to the deficit?) The bill simply extends the federal unemployment tax, something that has been in place already for over 30 years. (typical talk for a democrat "the bill simply extends the federal unemployment tax" It's simply a tax, you know? By the way, extending a tax means it's a tax increase. Again, taking money from those that work and giving it to those that don't.)

I was proud (we've got the picture, comrade) to vote for this legislation--another crucial step in providing immediate relief and stability to those families struggling to make ends meet and getting our economy back on track.

Sincerely,

Charlie Wilson
Member of Congress
Ohio's Sixth District

Why is it the media are slow to admit that guns save lives

I wonder why WTAP can't just say what happened. Surely they know.....or at least most of the mid Ohio valley know what happened.

They tip-toe around the facts by saying:

"as the investigation continues into the shooting death of a Pettyville man."

"On Sunday, authorities say Christopher Dickel was shot and later died at the Mineral Manor Apartment Complex."

Here's what really happened.

An argument ensued over a girlfriend. A phone call was made to the home (where the shooting later occurred) and a death threat was made on one of the occupants of the apartment.

A gang of thugs made good on their promise of arriving at the apartment and attempting to kill one of the occupants.

To their surprise, after they broke down the door to the apartment, the first one through the door was shot, then shot again because he didn't go down with the first shot (a good reason to own firearms with a larger caliber than 9mm).

The rest of the thugs stepped over the body of their just dead friend and proceeded to fight with the occupants of the apartment.

2 observations on this:

  1. The news "media" hate giving credit to guns saving lives.
  2. A 9 round 12 gauge shot gun with 00 buckshot would be a much better home defense weapon than a 9mm handgun.

Why is the FOP endorsing and campaigning for gambling?

Here's a report from NBC4i.com. Looks like there is at least one reporter in the state that still can ask questions.....even though he got no answers.

Why is the FOP actively supporting gambling in Ohio? Surely there's more to it than the increase dues from more police officers that will be needed to combat the organized crime element of gambling.

There has to be more to their support that just that.

How to delay an economic recovery

Pay people not to work.

The House easily approved a bill last night that will extend unemployment benefits by 13 weeks to more than 65,000 Ohioans.

Why is it that no one considers the unintended consequences?

Former Ohio GOP Chairman now gambling pimp

Pretty sad. Getting paid to go 100% against your party's values. I have no confidence in the GOP to speak for me when it comes to gambling.

Cleveland.com story here.

This is one reason to oppose expanded gambling in Ohio. The buying of politicians (regardless of party) and organized crime.

Gambling does not create "new" money. It just recycles it from the gambler's pockets to the casino operator's......along with state government and corrupt politicians.

Another reason is that anytime you can keep money away from government, no matter where it comes from, it is a good thing.

I always thought there was something about Bennett that was sleazy....

Unintended consequenses....or not

The government's perverse desire to punish success.

Finally something to agree with Obama about

Times online story here

The decision not to base US missiles in eastern Europe is a good one. If Poland and the Czech Republic want a missile defense system, they should purchase it and run it themselves.

The argument that they were to be used against North Korea and Iran's missiles was far fetched.

Everyone knows that they were there for Russia.

Why do we want to antagonize Russia? It's becoming more capitalist by the day. (While we're heading the other direction towards socialism)

Here's part of Washinton's farewell address....and yes, it still applies today.

36 The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connexion as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop.

37 Europe has a set of primary interests, which to us have none, or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves, by artificial ties, in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities.

38 Our detached and distant situation invites and enables us to pursue a different course. If we remain one people, under an efficient government, the period is not far off, when we may defy material injury from external annoyance; when we may take such an attitude as will cause the neutrality, we may at any time resolve upon, to be scrupulously respected; when belligerent nations, under the impossibility of making acquisitions upon us, will not lightly hazard the giving us provocation; when we may choose peace or war, as our interest, guided by justice, shall counsel.

39 Why forego the advantages of so peculiar a situation? Why quit our own to stand upon foreign ground? Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rivalship, interest, humor, or caprice?

40 It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world; so far, I mean, as we are now at liberty to do it; for let me not be understood as capable of patronizing infidelity to existing engagements. I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is always the best policy. I repeat it, therefore, let those engagements be observed in their genuine sense. But, in my opinion, it is unnecessary and would be unwise to extend them.

41 Taking care always to keep ourselves, by suitable establishments, on a respectable defensive posture, we may safely trust to temporary alliances for extraordinary emergencies.
