Don't you love the media?

Here's a story about something that happened in Troy Township last night.

"Tense Moments In Coolville Standoff" the headline says.

One would be led to believe that the "standoff" occured in Coolville.  The issue is that there is not a Brimstone Road in Coolville.

The residence just happens to be served by the Coolville Post Office which has the zip code of 45723.  So, if you live in the 45723 zip code............well, you must live in Coolville.

I really like it when they report on an event at the Eastern high school.  They claim that the high school is in Reedsville, which is about 15 miles away (by driving) maybe 11-12 miles if you were a crow.

Both Tuppers Plains and Chester are about 2-3 miles from the school, but the school get's their mail from the Reedsville Post Office, hence the school magically is in Reedsville.

Why can't the media just say the incident occurred in Troy Township?  If it occurs in Coolville village limits.....then say it occurred in Coolville.

Amazing the lazy reporting we get.  It's not only the big things that makes one not believe the media, it's little things like this as well.  If they can't get this right, what else are they wrong on?

On a side note, I'm impressed with the Sheriff's office in their restraint.  Usually these types of episodes result in law enforcement burning a house down with the alleged offender still inside.

Why is it the media are slow to admit that guns save lives

I wonder why WTAP can't just say what happened. Surely they know.....or at least most of the mid Ohio valley know what happened.

They tip-toe around the facts by saying:

"as the investigation continues into the shooting death of a Pettyville man."

"On Sunday, authorities say Christopher Dickel was shot and later died at the Mineral Manor Apartment Complex."

Here's what really happened.

An argument ensued over a girlfriend. A phone call was made to the home (where the shooting later occurred) and a death threat was made on one of the occupants of the apartment.

A gang of thugs made good on their promise of arriving at the apartment and attempting to kill one of the occupants.

To their surprise, after they broke down the door to the apartment, the first one through the door was shot, then shot again because he didn't go down with the first shot (a good reason to own firearms with a larger caliber than 9mm).

The rest of the thugs stepped over the body of their just dead friend and proceeded to fight with the occupants of the apartment.

2 observations on this:

  1. The news "media" hate giving credit to guns saving lives.
  2. A 9 round 12 gauge shot gun with 00 buckshot would be a much better home defense weapon than a 9mm handgun.

Excellent thoughts on today's "media" headlines

GDP declines 1 percent, better than expected: "The economy shrank at an annual rate of 1 percent in the spring, a better-than-expected showing and more evidence that the recession is drawing to a close."

Maybe suggest your own versions such as: "Dresden bombing preserves more buildings than expected; GDP-boosting rebuild already underway."

Obama lied, the economy died

Remember those that said "Bush lied, people died" when no "weapons of mass destruction" were found after being told by the CIA that they were there?
(but of course they were there and were used by Hussein on the Kurds, facts and logic are inconvenient things)

Now we have Obama telling us that he was given "incomplete information" when he pushed through his and Charlie Wilson's huge deficit spending wasteful government stimulus package...without giving Congress time to read it...or Congress not demanding time to read it....the latter is more where the blame lies. Here we have the House Majority Leader (a democrat) laughing when asked why congress doesn't read bills before voting on them.

Then we have the morons in the Washington Post already starting to push for more deficit spending while "reporting".

"In light of the latest unemployment figures, there are more persistent questions coming at the administration. Did Obama and his team get it right last winter when they put together their $787 billion stimulus package, or did they undershoot? If they made a mistake, what should they do now?"

Printing $787,000,000,000 out of thin air is an "undershoot"? The soon to come massive inflation and high interest rates will make this recession look like the good old days. Obama and Carter area a lot alike.

The democrats are talking about financing our future even more by borrowing more money to spend! Of course, the media is stoking the fires as well.

Borrowing and spending money that we didn't have caused this mess. Now we think borrowing and spending will get us out? Only government could come to this conclusion.

Powell airs doubts on Obama agenda

Washington Times story

"Colin Powell, one of President Obama's most prominent Republican supporters, expressed concern Friday that the president's ambitious blitz of costly initiatives may be enlarging the size of government and the federal debt too much."

Now he's worried? Obama said what he wanted to do during the campaign and RINO Powell still endorsed him...after donating to McCain.

Powell's credibility is so low, why even interview him....well it is CNN after all.

Powell's comments now makes one question his reasoning. It also leads us to only two logical conclusions on why he endorsed Obama to begin with:
  1. Did he endorse Obama just because of his skin color?
  2. Did he endorse Obama assuming Obama was lying about his real agenda....remembering that Obama gave us fair warning about what he would try to accomplish if elected.

You'll hear this about Palin over and over

He noted that in 2008 "she revealed many weaknesses ... limited policy knowledge, association with fringe groups, weak performances on television and more."

Of course the intent is to slam Palin. Yet, if one would remove the "she" and replace it with "he" one would reasonably think the story is referring to Obama.

But if you dig deeper into the past of the fellow being quoted as some sort of expert, you'll find that he wrote an article for CNN (of all places) titled, "Will 'intellectual' label hurt Obama?"

So he's a complete Obama shill or a great comedian. Because, I've never heard anyone refer to Obama as an "intellectual".

Does the media really wonder why they are losing readership?

Biden makes sense...for once

Perhaps it's just me, but Joe Biden has just made perfectly logical sense, I think for the first time in his political life. Where's the "media"? This is the story!

Then you have the "media" double standard. Can you imagine the "media" outrage if GW Bush would have went golfing during this "pandemic"? Mr Obama did, where are the articles / commentaries accusing him of not caring? Not that it matters one bit if the president plays golf or not during this time. What really matters to the "media" is if he seems to "care". Now if it's Obama playing golf....well, it's a given that he "cares". He cares so much that we doesn't want to cause a panic by changing his plans...you see the difference?

On a note along these same double standard in the media lines....

Can you imagine the outrage if President Bush would have encouraged Chrysler in filing bankruptcy?

Yet there is total silence when Obama does the very thing: "Obama expressed optimism for the company's future when it emerges from Chapter 11, calling bankruptcy a "quick" and "efficient" step on its path to "survival."

Do these "newspapers" really wonder why they are going out of business? No one takes them seriously!

Dumb Laws

Hysterical media + uninformed public + pandering politicians = Laws with unintended consequences.

Marietta Register story about the new asbestos hype, lead.

This law threatens to close local thrift stores just when people need to find inexpensive items due to hard times (mostly due to high taxes in Ohio).

p.s. the public is uninformed because they listen to the hysterical, one sided media.

By the way, you've probably already guessed it, our Congressman Charlie Wilson was a co-sponsor to this dumb law.

This guy is great for a blogger, but a disaster for the conservative 6th district.

NPR in print

U.S. bill seeks to rescue faltering newspapers

"With many U.S. newspapers struggling to survive, a Democratic senator on Tuesday introduced a bill to help them by allowing newspaper companies to restructure as nonprofits with a variety of tax breaks."
Cardin's Newspaper Revitalization Act would allow newspapers to operate as nonprofits for educational purposes under the U.S. tax code, giving them a similar status to public broadcasting companies."

Just what we need, newspaper versions of NPR.

""We are losing our newspaper industry," Cardin said."

Um, WHO CARES? The horse and buggy can still be seen in parades, it's not like they are totally extinct, just irrelevant.

p.s. Maybe, if they would just report the facts and keep their opinions to themselves, people would subscribe...I think it's already too late.

Class envy Bolshevik / AIG style

New York Times Web log of the AIG hearing.

Thoughts on this:

  • These employees were offered bonuses last year, before AIG took tax money.
  • AIG was contractually obligated to pay.
  • How much money would the tax payers have to pay to fight lawsuits when AIG did not follow through with their commitments to pay these bonuses?
  • The media is stoking class envy.
  • Charlie Wilson is stoking class envy.
  • Republicans are stoking class envy for political gain.
  • So are the dems.
  • Christopher Dodd got us into this mess to begin with with his desire for less regulation on Freddie / Fannie Mae.
  • Christopher Dodd lied (again) about not putting wording in the conference bill to allow these bonuses to proceed.
  • Dodd admits he inserted this wording, a day after he said he didn't.
  • Obama and his administration requested Dodd insert this wording so lawsuits would be avoided.
  • Obama used much hubris and anger about these bonuses, when he not only previously knew about them, but had Dodd actually insert the wording in the bill to allow it to happen!
  • I would have gained much respect for Obama (starting at none) if he would have manned up and said he requested this wording and here are the reasons. No such luck. Mr. Bush would have been honest, to heck with the poll numbers.
  • Where's the media? This lays at Obama's feet and he's (today) talking about immigration reform? The media have been neutered.
  • Are we so dumb to forget history when it comes to stoked class hatred? Remember Russia in 1917? Remember the Cultural Revolution in China? Cambodia? All started because someone had more "stuff" than someone else.
  • Are the 10 Commandments no longer relevant? "Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's."
  • Lastly, again using Lenin's quote about the media:

"The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses." Vladimir Lenin

Faster than even I thought

Yesterday we speculated that our congressman Charlie Wilson would jump on Barney Frank's bandwagon again and castigate a company for following through with their obligations.

Well, here it is. Charlie is a great follower, if you haven't noticed yet, timely too.

How much tax money would be used by AIG to defend the lawsuits that would be brought if AIG did not pay what they said they would pay?

Previous post predicting Charlie Wilson's rush to judgement again.

This AIG bonus furor is nothing more than democrat demagoguery, trying to change the subject, because they are the ones that caused our financial collapse to begin with.

Where's the media asking the tough questions?

Charlie Wilson's rush to judgement

Congressman Charlie Wilson was in such a hurry to cast blame on a bank that he didn't read the fine print.

Massachusetts' Ambassador from Gomorrah, Barney Frank, sent a letter to the Northern Trust Bank blasting it for, what they thought at the time, wasting money. Charlie Wilson was all too happy to reinforce his new found (maybe not so new found after all) Marxist views and add his signature to this wrongly chastising letter.

Vindy.com story here

"The representatives wrote that they were “dismayed and angered” upon hearing of the banks irresponsible spending habits and said, “...We are demanding you take corrective action.”
“We insist that you immediately return to the federal government the equivalent of what Northern Trust frittered away on these lavish events,” the letter read."

What Charlie Wilson and Barney Frank failed to realize was this was a charity fund raiser that has raised over $50,000,000.

Link to Northern Trust's response
  • Northern Trust had net income last year of more than US$640 million, and paid for this event using normal operating funds.
  • No Capital Purchase Program funds were allocated for operating expenses, including marketing, advertising, corporate sponsorship or charitable activities.
  • Northern Trust did not seek the government's investment under the U.S. Treasury's Capital Purchase Program, but agreed to the government's goal of gaining the participation of all major banks in the United States.
  • Northern Trust pays dividends on the Treasury's investment, and will continue to pay them until the capital is returned. Currently, Northern Trust pays the government US$78.8 million on an annual basis as a return on taxpayers' investment – almost US$20 million per quarter.
  • Capital Purchase Program funds are supporting high quality loan growth, benefiting both private and institutional clients. As of December 31, 2008, our loans and leases grew to more than US$30 billion, a 21% increase from December 31, 2007.
  • This is the second year of Northern Trust's five-year agreement to sponsor the Northern Trust Open. The tournament agreement was signed in 2007 and all associated contracts associated with client education and entertainment were signed months before the U.S. government’s Capital Purchase Program was contemplated.
  • During tournament week, more than 2,000 clients and prospects from around the globe participated in activities including three financial education seminars for our personal and institutional clients.
  • Over the past two years, Northern Trust has raised US$3 million dollars for the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce Charity Foundation and the many non-profit organizations it supports. Over its entire history, this tournament has raised more than US$50 million for the Los Angeles community.

If you didn't catch this in Northern Trust's response, look at this bullet point.

"Northern Trust did not seek the government's investment under the U.S. Treasury's Capital Purchase Program, but agreed to the government's goal of gaining the participation of all major banks in the United States."

This was a huge mistake on their part! They should repay the money (for their own good) and never trust the federal government again.....at least not while Charlie (itching trigger finger) Wilson and Barney Frank are in office. Isn't it ironic that Barney Frank, one of the Congressmen that got us into this financial mess to begin with, is now chastising banks for having charitable fund raisers. Apparently the only charity acceptable to the Marxists is charitable giving to the government.

Looks like Congressman Charlie Wilson needs to look at the facts before he jumps into bed with Barney Frank.

Also, surely I'm not the only one noticing the lack of media questioning. It looks like they just cut and paste Charlie Wilson's press releases without asking any questions. Apparently there are no inquiring minds in our local media anymore.

The media is a democrat protection machine III

After reading this puff piece, I had to comment. Reuters has obviously given up all appeareances (slight as they were) of being objective.
Comments in red:

link to story , though story is not the right description. It's more like a White House press release.

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama ordered the U.S. Treasury on Saturday to implement tax cuts for 95 percent of Americans, fulfilling a campaign pledge he hopes will help jolt the economy out of recession. 95% of Americans get a tax cut? There are not 95% of Americans that pay taxes! What he's done, with Congressman Charlie Wilson's help, is take money from those that pay taxes and given it to people that don't pay taxes and called it a "tax cut". It's called Marxism and Orwellian.

The tax cuts are part of a $787 billion economic recovery plan (Deficit creation plan) passed by the Democratic-controlled Congress over Republican opposition. (it's about time, Republican opposition, that is) The aim is to put more money in the pockets of Americans and stimulate the economy by increasing consumer spending. (If you really wanted to stimulate consumer spending, give them a direct lump sump, like Mr. Bush did. It worked then! Giving people about $10 a week through less withholding is a slow drip approach)

"I'm pleased to announce that this morning the Treasury Department began directing employers to reduce the amount of taxes withheld from paychecks, meaning that by April 1st, a typical family will begin taking home at least $65 more every month," Obama said in his weekly radio address.

"Never before in our history has a tax cut taken effect faster or gone to so many hard-working Americans," he said.
(Not true, the effect of Bush's lump sum took direct effect)
With tens of thousands of Americans losing their jobs in the midst of a global economic meltdown, Obama has said fixing the U.S. economy is his top priority. He has acknowledged that his success or failure in that will define his presidency. (whatever, the reporter must really need words for this "story")

Obama campaigned for the White House last year on a pledge to roll back his predecessor George W. Bush's tax cuts on the wealthy few and implement a cut for 95 percent of Americans. (notice how the "reporter" states as a fact that Bush's tax cuts "on the wealthy" ...he's just repeating Obama's campaign speeches. It's not true. Every tax payer got a tax cut under the Bush tax cuts. The problem (from a Marxist point of view) is those that did not pay taxes did not get a tax cut under Bush's plan. Again, how do you get a tax cut if you don't pay taxes to begin with?)

His announcement came a day after one of his top economic advisers, former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, said the global economy may be deteriorating even faster than during the Great Depression of the 1930s. (more fear mongering to get us to let Obama do anything he wants to destroy our country in the guise of "fixing" the economy)

Since being sworn into office on January 20, Obama has sought to reassure Americans that his government is tackling the economic crisis boldly and swiftly -- holding near-daily events to announce measures to stem mortgage foreclosures, prop up failing banks, rescue the ailing auto industry and drive his stimulus package through Congress.

The measures have received a mixed early reaction from gloomy financial markets uncertain whether they will succeed in arresting the downward economic spiral.
(not "mixed early reaction", the reaction has been 100% negative. the day he was inaugurated to the day he announced his "financial bailout" to this failed "stimulus" bill, the markets have been in a free fall. Yet the media sees it as "mixed early reaction")

The package includes $282 billion in tax cuts -- the Republicans pushed unsuccessfully for more -- and $120 billion for public works projects including highway and rail projects.
'HAZARDOUS ROAD AHEAD'
(by the math, this means there is 383 billion worth of worthless pork spending in this travesty of a bill...that our congressman Charlie Wilson voted for, remember)
"But as important as it was that I was able to sign this plan into law, it is only a first step on the road to economic recovery," Obama said in his address.
"None of this will be easy. The road ahead will be long and full of hazards. But I'm confident that we, as a people, have the strength and wisdom to carry out this strategy and overcome this crisis," he said.

His announcement on the tax cuts capped a week that saw him sign the
stimulus package into law and announce new measures to help families facing foreclosure and those struggling to make mortgage payments.

He will step up the pace next week when he holds a summit at the White House on Monday to look at how to rein in the country's ballooning deficit and bring
government spending under control as the economy starts to recover. (the irony here is unbelievable!)
Lawmakers, academics and business leaders have been invited to share their ideas on how to cut the $1 trillion deficit that Obama inherited along with two costly wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. (Obama and Wilson are adding to this deficit everyday. Now he wants to talk about our deficit? He should have thought about that before he pushed for this deficit creating "stimulus" bill. Notice how the "reporter says he inherited the deficit, yet does not mention Obama's hand in increasing it exponentially)

Obama will follow the summit with a major speech on Tuesday to a joint session of Congress in which he will lay out his domestic and foreign policy agenda. Inevitably, the economic crisis will loom large. (this guy, Obama, is a bigger camera hog than Bill Clinton or Chuck Schumer)
After a short breather (I'm sure he's really needing a rest, all that signing stuff can wear a guy out) on Wednesday to host a concert honoring Stevie Wonder, Obama on Thursday will unveil his proposed budget for the 2010 fiscal year, which will reflect the big increases in public spending as part of the economic recovery plan." (big increases in spending, yeah, he's really going to focus on the deficit isn't he?)

This Obama guy has more inconsistencies than a Bill Clinton affidavit, and this reporter puts it all in one story and we're supposed to make sense of it? Well, it does make sense if you can see that this "reporter" is not concerned about getting to the truth, he's more concerned about promoting Obama.

Michael Steele Becomes First African-American Republican Chairman

Michael Steele Becomes First African-American Republican Chairman

"Also a factor in Steele's victory is the fact that he is an African American, a sign that shows the GOP is ready to change and open it's doors to be more inclusive of minorities."

Don't you love reporters? They can't think for themselves, but they sure can repeat what liberals say about Republicans.

They must have forgotten, Collin Powell, Clarence Thomas, Ken Blackwell, Condi Rice, etc., etc...

And of course the reporter is reporting on Michael Steele who, himself was the first African American elected to statewide office in Maryland...as a Republican.

Reporters don't let little things like facts get in the way of flashy one line zingers in support of the dems.

Level 3 "snow emergency"

"Level 3 Snow Emergency: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one else should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. All employees should contact their employers to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roadways may be subject to arrest."

Some thoughts on this:

  • There is no consistency between the levels in the different counties. Meigs (where men are still men) had no declared "emergency", though it neighbors Athens county which had a level 3, how could that be?
  • Athens county has a history of inflating this "snow emergency" level in the past. Once we were in a store in Athens and they started telling us we needed to leave because we were under a level 3 emergency. It hadn't even started snowing yet! So, our new Sheriff is an improvement in this regard. He actually waited until we had winter conditions in ...um...winter. I had a fellow at work tell me yesterday that Athens county is really bad. I asked him how he knew that and he said he heard it on the news that we were under a "level 3". I explained that every time it snows more than 2 inches we are under a level 3 and the news doesn't really understand the history. But since it's on the "news" it must be true. Kirk Greenfield (WTAP's Meteorologist) has taken great umbrage at my comments on WTAP.com about the "snow emergency" inflation in Athens County. His assumption was since Athens County was under a level 3, it must have been a lot worse than other local counties. This is the wrong assumption due to the above comments.
  • The County Engineer would always prefer that we don't drive on the roads anytime it snows. The Sheriff needs to take this into account when he makes his decision under pressure from the Engineers office. (Come to think of it, if they could keep those pesky vehicles off the roads all year long, we'd never have a pot-hole problem.)
  • There have been times where locals (driving "illegally" in a "level 3") have cut trees out of the road so the county's snow plows can make it through. I also know of an instance where "illegal" drivers pulled a Township truck from being stuck over a snow covered bank.
  • We are the ones that have to attend to elderly neighbors who have no power. Generators run on gasoline. Gasoline is sold a various locations. One has to drive to get there.
  • One has to drive to cut the trees off of parent's houses.
  • One has to drive to take a load of firewood to neighbors who now have no electric, hence no heat.

Have we even thought about the consequences if people actually listened to the Sheriff (it's the county engineer that prods this decision, by the way) when he "declares" a "snow emergency"?

  • Most commerce in southeastern Ohio would cease. We have rt 7, 50 and 33 all major highways running through Athens county. If we all followed the "rules" every semi truck (along with every car/truck heading from / to work) would stop at the county lines. How much snow removal would be happening around traffic jams.
  • If we all followed the "rules" local elderly people would have died from the cold. We haven't seen the county trucks delivering firewood or meals on wheels delivering meals. Neighbors should be allowed (and if not allowed, do it anyway) to help their neighbors.
  • If we followed the rules we'd have people working 24-36 hours because no one comes to work to relieve them.
  • In this slow economy we are going to tell people not to go to work unless it's necessary? We don't get paid unless we go to work. Work is necessary from an economic point of view no matter what.

So, while the government and the media try to make us into whimpering, thumb sucking in the corner adolescents........some of us ignore the rules and act like men.

If we followed the "rules" we'd have a real snow emergency.

I've got an idea for Kirk Greenfield. Instead of giving the population the impression that Athens county is a lot worse off than all the neighboring counties, maybe he should ask why that all winter storms are worse in Athens county, because their "snow emergency" levels are always higher than our neighbors in bordering counties....you'd think studying this phenomenon would be a meteorologist's dream.

Got to go now, have to refill the generator, put wood in the stove. I haven't seen the government here offering to do that for me, yet.

We've turned into a nation of wimps.

The media is a democrat protection machine II

Obama met with Dow Jones industrial average's worst Inauguration Day decline....in history!

It's amazing the excuses the media come up with to cover Obama from the truth.

Their reasoning is getting pretty weak, however......"as speculation that banks must raise more capital...." really, who would have guessed that? We just realized it on Obama's first day?

The real headline should have been, Obama met with Dow Jones industrial average's worst Inauguration Day decline....in history! Investors don't trust Obama.

"U.S. stocks sank Tuesday, sending the Dow Jones industrial average to its worst Inauguration Day decline, as speculation that banks must raise more capital pushed financial shares to an almost 14-year low."

Here's another story

The media is a democrat protection machine

Pretty amazing story.
  1. A social worker
  2. A former director of Ohio's "Faith-Based Initiatives"
  3. An OSU faculty advisor
All in business together to promote sex for money with under age girls.

One thing that is not surprising is how fast the media de-linked Governor Strickland (democrat) from this story. Eric McFadden, the former director of the Governor's Office of Faith-Based Initiatives until sometime in 2007. He was appointed by Strickland....a democrat.
  1. How many appointees like this still work for our state government because of Strickland?
  2. Where was the "vetting" process?
  3. What ages are the kids this "social worker" works with?
  4. Just what is this faculty advisor advising faculty to do?
  5. Why isn't the media asking these questions?

previous post on this subject.
