Is there anything the feds don't want involved in?

The US Senate is considering to outlaw theft of copper.  Um, it's already illegal to steal in all 50 states.  Why do we need a federal law? 

It's not just obama, it's both parties that are involved in the federal government overreach in multiple areas.

The need to "do something" once in Washington must be overwhelming.  How about doing nothing? We don't want or need any more of your "help".

Some thoughts on Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who gave their lives serving this country.

The meaninng seems to get lost (at least this section of the state) in that it's turned into a rememberance day for all dead friends and relatives.  All good to do, of course, but the intent of Memorial Day is to remember a solder, sailor, airman, marine who lost their life in duty to their country.

If you don't have a relative that meets this criteria, there are many forgotten graves in the country side that have such men in them.  Adopt one of these graves, keep the headstone repaired or at least level, so it won't fall over.  Mow the grave once in awhile, if the township doesn't own the cemetery.

It's a real shame when you visit a cemetery and see a pile of headstones thrown over the hill.  Untended/maintained headstones fall over, get hit by mowers, etc.  Then the grave location is lost and before you know it, the headstone is gone.

A little care, even once a year, to ensure the headstone is in good shape, level and won't fall over makes the senerio in teh above paragraphs less likely.

The other issue is that we have too many dead service mean due to un-needed wars.

Civil War should never have happened.  The hypocracy of this war is unbelievable.  600,000 dead soldiers.  If the war was about southen states attempting to succeed (which Lincoln said he had no desire to free the slaves and his emancipation proclomation only affected slaves in the north) why did Lincoln allow the north western portion of Virginia to succeed for Virginia and become West Virginia?

This war was about establishing (once and for all) the supremacy of the federal government over the States. 

Spanish/American War:  not needed
WWI: not needed, if we would have kept our noses out of it, and let Germany and England/France fight it out and end up with a comprimise that did not put Germany on the path to Socialism and Hitler.
WWII: See above.  Though one has to wonder how much Churchhill and Roosevelt really wanted a avoid the war.  Especially when Rodulf Hess flew to England with a peace propsal from Germany, but was immediately put in prison for life.  He eventrually "committed suicide".
Here was his propsal:
a) Withdrawal of all German Troops from Poland, Belgium, France & Holland.
b) Reimbursement for war damage to those countries
c) Total German disarmament
d) Destruction of all German war weaponry.

Korean War:  Um, it's Korea, how was/is this a concern of the US?  Fighting Communism would not have been needed if WWI wouldn't have happened.  Germany would have still been a force to counterbalance Communism in Europe, then the spread of Communism would not have had a free hand to spread.
Vietnam War:  See above and change Korea to Vietnam.
Persian Gulf War: Obviously about oil and the dollar and how the oil trade is conducted exclusively via the dollar.  If it was about Saddam, they would have went and got him.

Many, Many men have died fighting for this country in stupid, stupid wars.  Very sad.

One more thing.  I think this is the only thing I can remember agreeing with Obama on.  He did not cave to the war mongers in the GOP, the press or his own party to get involved in Syria.  We don't need to be there and it's none of our business.






   

Limited supply of used cars. Anyone really wonder why?

Missed in this story is the fact that we crushed thousands of good used cars a couple of years ago. These cars would have been good used cars for folks for years to come. Another "unintended consequenses" episode of idiodic government at work.

More people feel they can no longer delay replacing their old vehicles, driving up demand.

In the market for a used car? Kelley Blue Book urges you to buy sooner rather than later, as prices are rising.

Of course, it doesn't pay to be strong-armed into it, especially not if your current vehicle still has some life left in it. And it will make sense to consider your used-car choice carefully, as certain models command a premium.

KBB, a leading source of car-value data, says used-car prices are likely to rise by 3% to 5% in the first quarter of 2012, and even more in the second quarter. "Non-luxury cars and crossovers increased between $50 and $100 in the past week alone, and they will likely continue to rise in the weeks and months ahead," KBB reported last week.

Between Jan. 6 and Jan. 13, the average trade-in value of a 2009-2011 midsized car increased $107, from $12,096 to $12,203, or 0.9%. Most other types of cars that age gained 0.5% to 0.6% that week. A 5% increase in the coming months would raise the price of a $12,000 car to $12,600 -- and that's serious money for budget-conscious Americans.

Credit goes to unusual market conditions. Supply has been tightened by a slowdown in lease returns, a key source of used vehicles, while at the same time the average age of cars on the road is going up as drivers postpone purchases in the weak economy. Now more people feel they can delay no longer, driving up demand. Post continues below.

Sometimes doing nothing is the right answer

None of these Republicans can say it. That, maybe the right answer in Lybia is to do nothing.

IF, we are not concerned about the massive amount of oil under Lybia, why get involved?

Muammar al-Qaddafi has kept Lybia semi-stable in an unstable part of the world. Do we really want to support a bunch of rebels with ties to al qaeda?

I hate to say it, but there's no other logical answer why an anti-war president would relent to bomb another sovereign country, OIL.

So, since this anti-war president has to keep the spigot open in the middle east, it comes back to his actions or in-actions on the domestic oil front. Allow drilling in ANWAR and other federally owned lands. Start issuing permits to drill in the gulf.

Obama has backed himself into a corner forcing him to do something that completely against everything he stands for....sort of like "chickens coming home to roost".

We force companies to "buy" leases to drill off shore. Then, after the mobster government gets the money, they don't allow them to drill! Normally, this would be called, THEFT.

The average price for 87 octane gasoline when barry took office was $1.86. Now it's $3.14. Where's the outrage and stories blaming him? Asking him what he's going to do about it??

Not that I think that the government should do anything about the price of gas. What they should do is quit hindering drilling, which actually raises the price of fuel.

The cost of money

There are many folks that want to eliminate the penny.

One of the reasons is that it's worthless due to inflation.

Why don't we stop inflating our money to begin with? We need to wake up to the fact that our government is stealing from us with our inflated money.

Of course the government wants to make money out of cheap material (remember Space's idea to make pennies out of steel?). This way they can mint and print all they want.

If money were made out of silver or copper, the government couldn't print as much.....of course the outcome would be that they couldn't inflate themselves out of debt on your, er...dime.

So, we haven't been giving enough resources to Afghanistan in the past? This is the first time I've heard him say this. Why wasn't he using his influence to change this perceived policy failure? Why is he just now realizing this? Comrade Wilson has been in Congress since 2006 and this is the first time he's discovered this fantasy? Why wasn't he pushing for more troops in Afghanistan in the past? Or is it no more than he's reading the obama talking points that were handed to him? That's probably more like it.

Yep, we should worry about a backlash. The Muslims are engaged in a war against this country and we want to be careful not to get them upset.

They've flew airplanes full of people into buildings full of people, they cut off heads, they walk into crowds and detonate explosives, they enlist in our armed forces and kill our soldiers from the inside.

Yet, we don't want to upset them.
