Time to hoard Nickels

Rep. Steve Stivers thinks it's a bad thing for it to cost money to make money.

Here's his latest bill to change to composition of the Nickel to worthless steel.

Why do we let our government give us worthless money?

Paper backed by nothing.
A penny is worth; 0 cents
A dime is worth; .02 cents
A quarter is worth; .05 cents
A dollar coin is worth; .06 cents

But a Nickel is worth it's face value in the metal that it's made of; .05 cents

Coin clipping, inflation, funny money...all stuff of dishonest governments.

previous post on subject

Here's the difference, money made of metal worth something:

1909-1982 penny, made of copper (hence the name "copper penny") is worth .02 cents.
pre 64 dime; $2.08
pre 64 quarter; $5.21
pre 64 half dollar; $10.42
pre 64 dollar coin; $22.29

So, the government steals from us in more ways that confiscating our income, they give us fake money and pass it off for full value.

Merry Christmas not allow in "franked" congressional mail.

Apparently (link here), congressmen cannot wish their constituents "Merry Christmas" in tax payer funded mailings to their districts.

I say, SO WHAT? They shouldn't have franking privileges to begin with.

It's a massive waste of money. It's a way to keep their name ID up and help with their reelections.

There is no need for this in the age of emails/internet/facebook/twitter/etc....

My Representative just sent a post card telling us he supports the 2nd amendment. Um....that's his job! He took an oath to uphold the Constitution and the right to bear arms was the 2nd amendment to this Constitution.

Complete waste of tax money. It doesn't matter what party one affiliates himself with....Wilson did this and now Johnson is,.....it's a waste of money.

Government = words/Private businesses = actions

Here's a great story on how private business know how to deal with emergency situations vs the governments desire that everyone hunker down and stay indoors while the government does what it does best......talk.

Story here

Sort of like "snow emergencies" you all stay off of the roads and we'll, well, do nothing for awhile, but you better not try to do anything for yourself!

Debasing the last US coin that is worth it's face value

Stuff that deficits are made of.

Paper money is made of..........paper. Completely worthless

the penny is made of 97.5% zinc and is worth $0.005

the dime is made of nickel and copper and is worth $0.02

the quarter is made of nickel and copper is is worth $0.06

The only coin made in the US that is worth anything (when I say "worth" I mean it's made out of something worth something, in case that wasn't obvious) is the Nickel.

The Nickel is made of mostly copper and a higher percentage of nickel than the quarter and dime. It is worth $0.06

Maybe it's just me, but I think money should be worth something. This way the government can't just print / make funny money out of thin air. Seems criminal to me. Gov. Perry is correct that it is treasonous.

We need to attach our money to something valuable. Like gold and silver. Look at the inflation we've had since Pres. Nixon disassociated our money from Gold!

Now, the government is whining that it actually costs money to coin the nickel. It should cost money! Our money should be worth something.

It's time to start hording nickels. They are about to go the way of the pre-64 silver quarters and dimes.

Here's the difference:

pre 64 quarter is worth $7.63
pre 64 dime is worth $3.05

This is stuff banana republics do!

And here I thought Ohio was a sovereign state....

Kasich bows to the Governor of New York and his threats. Sad!

Instead of protecting the state of Ohio's economic future, Kasich caves in to the enviro-Nazis. Unbelievable!

Ken Blackwell vs Kevin DeWine

Principled conservative vs a weasel....Pretty sure that fits.

Dispatch story here

"Blackwell said that among the reasons he decided not to run is because it "would require me to make 'nice' with folks with whom I would rather not."

That comment was not explained, but appeared targeted at Kevin DeWine, chairman of the Ohio Republican Party, who gave Blackwell's potential candidacy a chilly reception when Blackwell told The Dispatch in April that he was thinking about running."

DeWine is not and doesn't care for real conservatives running for office. Conservatives that will actually be a conservative after they are elected, not just during the campaign.

"Blackwell, who lost the 2006 governor's race to Democrat Ted Strickland by almost 24 points, said that after serving as Cincinnati mayor, Ohio treasurer and secretary of state, he would "much prefer an executive office over a legislative office.""

Blackwell lost because the GOP establishment abandoned him and had to have actually voted for Strickland. They mouth the politially correct words "diversity" but only really want it when candidates toe the moderate GOP party line. I don't believe the Ohio GOP is racist, they are anti-conservative, no matter what color you are.

"Blackwell, 63, also said he had made a personal commitment not to run for office past age 70, so "I could not and would not run for re-election if successful this time. I believe to get done what needs to be done in the U.S. Senate, the next senator needs to make a two-term commitment. I cannot.""

I don't agree with Blackwell that this has to be a 2 term commitment. When that happens, the first term is spent campaigning and raising money for the 2nd term....more so than actually being a good conservative Senator. Maybe that's why I can't remember one of them (Ohio conservative US Senator) in my life time. Think John Glenn (D)and George Voinovich (so called R), it's a hard call as to who was the more conservative.

"In an apparent criticism of the state party, Blackwell said he received encouragement from conservatives, "a source of political strength that the GOP establishment has never been able to grasp.""

He's right, the GOP makes promises, innuendos and platitudes toward conservatives every election year. No action has resulted until Kasich.....which are few and too timid. Use them (conservatives) to campaign then ignore their requests after being elected.

"The Ohio GOP has not endorsed a Senate candidate, but a number of its leaders, including Secretary of State Jon Husted, have thrown their support to Mandel, who has been treasurer just six months."

If that isn't a good enough reason to support former state Sen. Kevin Coughlin, I don't know what is. When the Ohio GOP establishment starts endorsing candidates before the primary (bad practice btw, let the voters decide........proof that they don't trust the GOP voters to make decisions) it's a good time to support the exact opposite.

""We leave it to the GOP to decide if they would rather nominate an ethically challenged and newly elected treasurer who promised to serve the full four years of his term, or a do-nothing former state senator," Ohio Democratic Party spokesman Justin Barasky said."

The this do nothing label is thrown around by both parties against former / current general assembly members that run for office. Let see, would I rather have an activist state Senator/Representative who probably doesn't think through the ramifications of his votes (unintended consequences) or someone that is slow and thoughtful about important issues and isn't the first to jump on all the band wagons rolling down Broad St?

Everyone is a suspect in a police state

Rep. Rex Damschroder's bill to eliminate our front license plate makes sense. The police don't like it because we are all guilty of something until proven otherwise. Someone needs to remind the FOP and the OHP that they work for us, not vice versa.Link

What is Kasich thinking?

Does he really think that acting like a liberal will make them like him? He should have learned better than that by watching George H.W. Bush.

Dispatch story about him thinking about giving tax monies to minorities because they are minorities, not because their companies can do the best / most cost effective job.

You really wonder why people think that both parties are the same? The difference is when they campaign they say different things. When they get elected, that's when you can't tell them apart.

Sometimes doing nothing is the right answer

None of these Republicans can say it. That, maybe the right answer in Lybia is to do nothing.

IF, we are not concerned about the massive amount of oil under Lybia, why get involved?

Muammar al-Qaddafi has kept Lybia semi-stable in an unstable part of the world. Do we really want to support a bunch of rebels with ties to al qaeda?

I hate to say it, but there's no other logical answer why an anti-war president would relent to bomb another sovereign country, OIL.

So, since this anti-war president has to keep the spigot open in the middle east, it comes back to his actions or in-actions on the domestic oil front. Allow drilling in ANWAR and other federally owned lands. Start issuing permits to drill in the gulf.

Obama has backed himself into a corner forcing him to do something that completely against everything he stands for....sort of like "chickens coming home to roost".

Here's a strange idea

Get our law enforcement folks out of Mexico. Put them on our side of the border and use them to secure the border.

Why do we have our folks in Mexico. We can't be the world's policeman.

Here it got an unarmed law enforcement officer killed.

WHY?

The question that comes to mind when you read the Dispatch story about Kasich appointing Montgomery to a job.

Why?

We are trying to cut spending. Not appoint folks to jobs of dubious value.

demagoguery= strickland+obama

Demagogy

Demagogy ( /ˈdÉ›məɡɒdÊ’i/[1]) or demagoguery ( /ˈdÉ›məɡɒɡəri/[2]) (Ancient Greek: δημαγωγία, from δῆμος dÄ“mos "people" and ἄγειν agein "to lead") is a strategy for gaining political power by appealing to the prejudices, emotions, fears and expectations of the public—typically via impassioned rhetoric and propaganda, and often using nationalist, populist or religious themes. What qualifies as demagogy has been the subject of debate and ambiguity since Aristophanes first used the term, in reference to the Athenian statesman, Cleon.[3]

This is obama and strickland to a tee.

Some thoughts about the union protests in Wisconson and Ohio.

  1. Strickland is using up what little good will he had with the public when he left office. He was defeated and he is no longer Governor. Yet he insists in getting into bed with the public employee unions and obama's brown shirts.
  2. Wisconson's protests prove the conservative's points. They are teachers who have called off sick. Who, in the real world, would call of work sick and then go in front of TV cameras and protest the same people that gave them the very generous sick time to begin with? In the private sector, these folks would be fired. These people have no fear of being fired or even disciplined for lying to their employer, the tax payers. This is exactly the type of entitlement attitude that the public is fed up with.
  3. Here we have a bunch of tax payer funded "Doctors" handing out fake "sick notes" to tax payer funded employees who are gaming the sick day system.
  4. barry is sending his brown shirt thugs to incite violence. Keep it up obama, you are on the wrong side on this one. Your true Bolchevick leanings are finally really showing through. You had a chance to be "moderate" yet all you really are is a national socialist, community organizer, union thug.
  5. I like what I see from Kasich, so far..... if he can get the unions this mad at him, he must be doing something right. Of course, this is not much of a standard, as the unions get mad when anyone talks about saving taxpayers money.
  6. States can't print money like obama and the ferderal reserve. Something has to be done. If Strickland was still in office, he'd have to deal with this issue. The unions would have been strangely silent.
  7. Strickland is really being a demagogue on this. He was just Governor. He knows exactly the mess our states budget is in. He helped cause it. Now, he's out calling our new Governor names? Give me a break!
  8. barry and ted both helped cause this with barry printing funny money and handing it out to the states (to keep their union buddies employed with taxpayer money) and ted kicking the hard decisions down the road to the next Governor. He has no right to get righteous on this.

Governments don't allow cockfighting

The stated reasoning is that it is cruel to the animals. Of course, when the birds are stolen from the owner by the government, what do they do with them? They kill them.

story here

I'm beginning to think that one reason that the state governments don't like cockfighting is the fact that since these dumb people gamble on the bird fights, they then don't have that money to gamble in the state sanctioned vice called the Lottery.

So, it's OK:
  1. For the state to run a gambling racket, but not you.
  2. For the state to kill your roosters, but you can't let them fight each other, because it might harm them.
I remember in Vinton County in May 1991 where 730 or so roosters were stolen (by the state) from their rightful owners for this same reason. Judge Brame, at first, rule that the roosters were to by "humanely euthanized", he rescinded that ruling before it could be carried out.

People take their cockfighting serious. It wasn't very long after this that someone left a lit candle in Brame's house and turned the gas to the cook stove on. The candle burned out before the gas could ignite. No one really knows if this had anything to do with the game bird case. I don't think any arrests were every made.

ORL is AWOL

Here we finally have a proposal with real teeth in it concerning the limiting of killing babies in Ohio.......and the Ohio Right to Life does not support it.

Makes no sense. The ORL would, apparently, rather tap dance around this issue with little tweaks to rules. Then, of course, blow and bleat like they've really accomplished something.

Here we have a real proposal that will save lives, yes, that is what we are talking about, saving lives, and the ORL is AWOL. The reasoning is that a court might overturn the law. (which is the court's job, in case you didn't realize, overturning the will of the people)

John Hancock signed the Declaration of Independence (along with many others) and it was treason. George Washington accepted the generalship of the Continental Army, even though it was against the law to take up arms against the mother land.

Yet the Ohio Right to Life can't even offer a word of support for this bill, just because it MIGHT be over turned in court.

Sad.

Barry is the reason for the high fuel prices

Shell: No Beaufort Sea drilling in Arctic for 2011

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Shell Alaska has dropped plans to drill in the Arctic waters of the Beaufort Sea this year and will concentrate on obtaining permits for the 2012 season, company Vice President Pete Slaiby said Thursday.

The recent remand of air permits issued by the Environmental Protection Agency was the final driver behind the decision, Slaiby said at a news conference."

We force companies to "buy" leases to drill off shore. Then, after the mobster government gets the money, they don't allow them to drill! Normally, this would be called, THEFT.

The average price for 87 octane gasoline when barry took office was $1.86. Now it's $3.14. Where's the outrage and stories blaming him? Asking him what he's going to do about it??

Not that I think that the government should do anything about the price of gas. What they should do is quit hindering drilling, which actually raises the price of fuel.

Comments on this "news" story.

"Sen. Begich, Obviously the Demos. Regime wants Alaska to suffer and the rest of us to get a wind mill to run our trucks. You need to change parties and help get votes through the Senate to save our Citizens and nation.
Abolish the EPA and nullify all regulations. States can take care of themselves cheaper and better than the Fed."

"How to predict Obama's every move: If it's against this country, that's his plan. He will accuse the "right" of everything HE'S guilty of."

Very seldom do I agree with these two, but....

Here Thomoas Suddes suggests that Ohio Constitutional changes might be in order. While I don't agree with change just for change's sake, Suddes has one good argument.

Rid ourselves of our self imposed term limits on House and Senate members. He says: "First and foremost would be repeal of General Assembly term limits, which curse Ohio with a legislature always looking for its next job rather than finishing the job at hand." I think the larger reason would be that the voters can't vote for who they want. The voters should decide a term limit on the elected member's merits by voting intelligently. However, since the voters know they can't / don't / won't vote intelligently, they limited themselves with term limits. Seems rather childish to me.

Here's an idea for the voters that don't trust themselves to make the correct choices when voting.........don't vote!

Here, Jim Phillips thinks it is a big deal for law enforcement to fake evidence. I do too. I'm not sure why Sheriff Kelley insists on employing this individual.

You can't melt paper dollars

The US government (Federal Reserve) is really smart.

OK, They are really devious and dishonest.

Here is a story of the Indian Government arresting a smart man. His crime? Melting some of his own currency, yes, he owned it....even if it was issued by his government.

The reason he was melting it is because it is worth more as pure silver than the face value of the coin.

Back to the comment about our government being dishonest and devious. They quit making coins with silver in 1964 (90%) and 1969 (40%).

So, our money is absolutely worthless. It's made of nothing. Our coins are made of junk metals that are worth much less than the face value of the coin. How is this honest?

See Coinflation's website to see just what a dime is really worth.

But, we have went one step further, we have issued paper money. Nothing backs it up!

This is the same government that is going to borrow itself out of debt. This ponzi scheme will come to and end.

The Federal Reserve is the legal mafia. Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were right in being afraid of a central bank. Ron Paul is right to try to abolish it.

The reason the budget will never be balanced

It doesn't matter if the GOP or the Socialists control congress. There is always a "good" program or
"needy" people who are "hurting" that need your money more than you. (Find that in the Constitution, BTW)

Europe starts confiscating private pension funds

How long do you think it will take the federal government to start thinking the same way here?

Washington Examiner story here

You wonder why gas is $3.19 / gal?

Obama can't even issue permits to drill in the gulf.......even after his "ban" has been lifted.

Obama is intentionally manipulating oil prices by limiting supply, deliberately hurting the oil business and the price of oil if spiking.

Where's the outrage now? Apparently outrage is only in vogue when a Republican is in the White House.

Ohio Chamber of Commerce advocates raising taxes

The Ohio Chamber of Commerce has released a report on how Ohio can start digging it's way out of it's budget mess.

One item I disagree with is the suggestion of the elimination of the real estate rollback. This was implemented in the early 70's to help "sell" the income tax. (never trust your government).

(The Chamber is playing a Chameleon again. Depending on the subject............they either say we are massively overtaxed (which I agree with) or now, we are "giving money to taxpayers", propaganda Lenin would be proud of)

Now the Chamber thinks it's a costly entitlement given to tax payers! This sounds just like a press release from the obama administration.

They also float the idea of "means testing" the real estate rollback based on the value of the property. Again, never trust your government. They know that over time inflation will make whatever number they come up with meaningless.

Previous posts on not trusting what the government says when they try to sell a new tax: here and here

The part of the report I do agree with is consolidation of local governments. They talk all around the idea but they get there. I wish they'd be even more bold and suggest the elimination of Townships. It doesn't matter if the cost only equals whatever percentage of the upcoming shortfall. If Townships are wasteful and not needed, they need to go!

Previous posts on eliminating Townships here and here.

Only burn your tires at night

We've really turned into a police state, if all we are worried about is burning a tire.

I thought I'd never say this, but I agree with a Public Defender.

Athens New Story here

Sheriff Pat Kelly hired a felon as an "Environmental Officer".

The need for an "environmental officer" is dubious anyway. That's what the OEPA and Mike Cooper at the Athens County Health Department's job is already.

So, 2 issues:

1. Our top law enforcement officer should not be hiring felons, no matter if it's a law enforcement job or not. There are many law abiding folks that don't have felonies that could use a job.
2. It certainly looks like this fellow was impersonating an officer. When will he be charged with that crime? He's wearing a shirt that says "Deputy Jay Barrett". He signs official paperwork "Deputy Jay Barrett". Yet he is not a police officer. Looks like an open and shut case. That is, if someone chooses to enforce the law.
3. Don't we have more important things to worry about than a private citizen burning a tire on his own private property?

Looks like a position that is funded via some grant. We really get ourselves into dumb positions by agreeing to take grant money.

Our Sheriff needs to worry about real crimes in this county, like theft and robbery, rather than someone using a tire to burn brush with.
