Demagogy ( /ˈdɛməɡɒdʒi/^[1]) or demagoguery ( /ˈdɛməɡɒɡəri/^[2]) (Ancient Greek: δημαγωγία, from δῆμος dēmos "people" and ἄγειν agein "to lead") is a strategy for gaining political power by appealing to the prejudices, emotions, fears and expectations of the public—typically via impassioned rhetoric and propaganda, and often using nationalist, populist or religious themes. What qualifies as demagogy has been the subject of debate and ambiguity since Aristophanes first used the term, in reference to the Athenian statesman, Cleon.[3]

This is obama and strickland to a tee.

Some thoughts about the union protests in Wisconson and Ohio.

1. Strickland is using up what little good will he had with the public when he left office. He was defeated and he is no longer Governor. Yet he insists in getting into bed with the public employee unions and obama's brown shirts.
2. Wisconson's protests prove the conservative's points. They are teachers who have called off sick. Who, in the real world, would call of work sick and then go in front of TV cameras and protest the same people that gave them the very generous sick time to begin with? In the private sector, these folks would be fired. These people have no fear of being fired or even disciplined for lying to their employer, the tax payers. This is exactly the type of entitlement attitude that the public is fed up with.
   
3. Here we have a bunch of tax payer funded "Doctors" handing out fake "sick notes" to tax payer funded employees who are gaming the sick day system.
4. barry is sending his brown shirt thugs to incite violence. Keep it up obama, you are on the wrong side on this one. Your true Bolchevick leanings are finally really showing through. You had a chance to be "moderate" yet all you really are is a national socialist, community organizer, union thug.
   
5. I like what I see from Kasich, so far..... if he can get the unions this mad at him, he must be doing something right. Of course, this is not much of a standard, as the unions get mad when anyone talks about saving taxpayers money.
6. States can't print money like obama and the ferderal reserve. Something has to be done. If Strickland was still in office, he'd have to deal with this issue. The unions would have been strangely silent.
7. Strickland is really being a demagogue on this. He was just Governor. He knows exactly the mess our states budget is in. He helped cause it. Now, he's out calling our new Governor names? Give me a break!
8. barry and ted both helped cause this with barry printing funny money and handing it out to the states (to keep their union buddies employed with taxpayer money) and ted kicking the hard decisions down the road to the next Governor. He has no right to get righteous on this.
   

Ohio Chamber of Commerce advocates raising taxes

The Ohio Chamber of Commerce has released a report on how Ohio can start digging it's way out of it's budget mess.

One item I disagree with is the suggestion of the elimination of the real estate rollback. This was implemented in the early 70's to help "sell" the income tax. (never trust your government).

(The Chamber is playing a Chameleon again. Depending on the subject............they either say we are massively overtaxed (which I agree with) or now, we are "giving money to taxpayers", propaganda Lenin would be proud of)

Now the Chamber thinks it's a costly entitlement given to tax payers! This sounds just like a press release from the obama administration.

They also float the idea of "means testing" the real estate rollback based on the value of the property. Again, never trust your government. They know that over time inflation will make whatever number they come up with meaningless.

The part of the report I do agree with is consolidation of local governments. They talk all around the idea but they get there. I wish they'd be even more bold and suggest the elimination of Townships. It doesn't matter if the cost only equals whatever percentage of the upcoming shortfall. If Townships are wasteful and not needed, they need to go!

Increase instruction days for Ohio's schools without lengthening the school year

Here's how:

1. Cancel spring break.
2. Cancel training time for teachers during the school week which usually reduces instruction time by 2 hours on those days.. They could do their training:

• during the summer.
• before the school day begins.
• after the school day is over.
• on a Saturday.

3. Only take 3 Holidays during the school year. This means days, no 4 day weekends.

• December 25th, IF it is during the week. Don't take Thursday and Friday off if the 25th is on Saturday or Sunday. This also means that you go back to work / school after the 25th. No more week breaks between the 25th and the 1st of January. Yes, go to school on the 1st of January.
  
• Thanksgiving is on a Thursday. Take Thursday off and get back to work on Friday.
• Good Friday, take it off, but as stated above, no "spring break". They'll soon have a summer vacation.

This would add 2.5 - 3 weeks of instruction time without lengthening the school year. One of Strickland's objectives was to go to 200 days of instruction. He could have proposed the above plan, but I suspect that his union thug supporters would not like it.

NRA dumb endorsements

Like I've said in the past, the NRA loses credibility when it does not look at the big picture with it's endorsements.

Just got a post card and my "American Rifleman" magazine from the NRA.

The Rob Portman and Ted Strickland endorsements make sense. However, the Charlie Wilson endorsement does not.

Portman is running against one of the biggest anti-gun democrat ever. Lee Fisher was actually on Handgun Control Inc's board.

Strickland is and has been pro-gun since his first stint in Congress. He has not changed his position. Kasich voted to ban semi-automatic guns. so, this endorsement also makes sense.

The Charlie Wilson endorsement is the one I have an issue with. Yes, Charlie has not voted to restrict our 2nd amendment rights. However, he does vote for and support other democrats that do. For instance, he votes to have Nancy Pelosi as the Speaker of the House. She is an anti-gun freak from San Fransisco. How is that helping the NRA's mission?

Bill Johnson (running against Wilson) is also pro-gun. There should be no endorsement in this race. The policy of supporting and campaigning for pro-gun incumbents, against other pro-gun candidates is a waste of time and is surely a waste of money. Since, in these cases, no matter who wins, the NRA gets a gun friendly congressman.

Strickland officially completely out of touch with Ohio

I've always thought this guy was a little loony, but this proves it.

He thinks it's wrong for people to keep their own money? He actually wants to make a campaign issue of this? How dumb are his advisors?

Ohio is the 47th highest taxes state in the nation. 1 being good. 50 being bad (unless your a democrat).

Mr. Strickland thinks your only a good Ohioan if you give him your money. So he, in turn, can give your money to more government leeches....

Didn't we fight (and win) a war over high taxes? (lower, BTW, than they are today).

Yet Strickland thinks it makes good political sense to bash those that don't want to pay taxes on death to the state and would rather give it to their children?

He thinks this is a winning issue? This guy is crazy!

Here's the winning quote: "Strickland said he found that comment revealing and disturbing, noting that Ohioans who grow up in the state and start successful businesses here benefit from the state's advantages."

So, because of this we have to pay up, just like the Mafioso? The state has many benefits in spite of the government, not because of it.

We need a governor that understands that people will move to locales that steal less of their money than Ohio does. Ohio has to compete with the Florida's and Texas' of this union or we'll keep losing good people to those states. This is not rocket science.

Mr. Strickland does not get it.

OFB's cave to the "humane society"

Isn't it a shame to see the Ohio Farm Bureau cave into the "Humane Society". Especially after winning last fall's ballot initiative to create an "Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board".

I thought that board was going to take care of all our upcoming issues? Especially since the board has the "humane society" on the board.

So, the OFB and others supported last fall's ballot initiative to create this board. The thought process was, that by creating this board, the issues would be handled by the board.

However, the initiative did not stop anyone from taking issues directly to the voters. So, what is the point of the board?

Then when the so called "humane society" threatens again to take livestock "care" issues to the voters, the OFB caves.

What is the old saying?..."with friends like these, who needs enemies?"

Makes one wonder if the Ohio Farmer's Bureau went ahead and put the "humane society" on their board. They are acting like it.

Mr. Strickland is trying to play both sides here. But just because he has his picture taken with OFB's vice president, in no way makes him a friend of farmers.

Strickland does one thing right

"Ohio has had more executions than any state outside the South."

Nothing to be ashamed of with that.

Debbie Phillips bragging about raising your taxes

$871 million gap in the state's current biennium budget by delaying the final phase of a planned tax reduction until 2011, Phillips said. The state would raise about $844 million in revenue, she noted.

One more example of why you should never trust the government. Promising to reduce tax rates after raising them somewhere else.

However the reduction part is incremental over time. That's pretty handy when a government made "crisis" evolves and we "need" more of your money. We just won't give you the tax cut we promised.

By the way, the tax increase is in full effect.

Never trust the government when they tell you they'll cut your taxes over time. They lie. Even if they keep their word (laughing), the money is artificially inflated by same government, making it worth less.

Yes, I know that the CAT tax had to be incremental due to loss of funding if we just "gave" all the tax money back to the people all at once. Right. Here's the reason why governments make tax cuts gradual over time. So your attention will be elsewhere when they cut the promised tax cutting short.

Never trust the government. Especially one (Ohio) some in bed with the teacher's unions that they can't take care of their own citizens needs....like letting them keep their own money.

Does no one care that Texas and Tennessee are filling up with ex-Buckeyes?

Who wants to wager that we'll never see the "final phase of a planned tax reduction"?

How I'm voting on the statewide issues

Issue 1: NO, this does not belong in our state's Constitution, which is a long term document. This issue deals with a temporary situation. When the temporary situation is over, the amendment will still be in the Constitution. Our state's Constitution should be for long term guidance, not short term desires.. Also, Ohio can't afford to go $200,000,000 in debt, no matter how noble the cause.

Issue 2: Reluctantly YES. reluctantly because the need for such an amendment is stupid. However, the lilly livered animal worshipers will spend and spend until they make us all meat free. The main problems I have with this Issue is: If it's really to circumvent a threatened "humane" society push for another ballot initiative to really make it difficult to farm in Ohio......why give the "humane" society a seat on this board at all? The "humane" society is about as un-Ohioan as they come. We shouldn't codify their existence in our Constitution. You see why I said reluctantly.

Issue 3: NO, we do not need further / expanded gambling in Ohio. There are many reasons one should oppose this social leach of a vice. The most recent example of the corrosiveness of gambling is watching our Governor. He was once 100% against gambling...very recently. However, the empty promise of millions of dollars from gambling to fund the state government has made our use to be devout anti-gambling Governor start rolling the dice with our future. One of the only things I agreed with Mr. Strickland with was this issue, until he did an about face. It's a sad thing to behold.

And I do believe he would raise taxes rather than agree to more gambling. Even though, that is not the right answer either. Just cut spending! It's amazing how afraid our governors are of a mob of middle aged librarians when it comes to budget cuts.

Sen. George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio, ripped both proposals to expand gambling in Ohio last week as an "attack on families." Voinovich made his comments as the Ohio Roundtable, a conservative policy group, announced a lawsuit to block Gov. Ted Strickland's plans for video slot machines at horse tracks.

Voinovich said at the event that the slots plan and a November ballot issue to permit full-blown casinos in Ohio's four largest cities would suck money out of the pockets of vulnerable people.

Voinovich said the fourcasino plan is the handiwork of "greedy vultures" from other states. The Republican former governor was not as harsh toward Strickland, a Democrat, but sounded personally betrayed as he recalled how Strickland stood with Voinovich and other gambling opponents against a slotmachine proposal in 2006.

"Based on his past comments, he knows that this is not in the best interest of Ohio's families," Voinovich said.
Strickland says that the state needs the $933 million in expected revenue from the video lottery terminals at the racetracks to head off massive cuts to education and social services.

Voinovich recalled that he faced similar budget problems, albeit less severe, when he took office in 1991. He noted that he cut the state budget four times and raised taxes, and would do so again in Strickland's position.

"I would have raised taxes," he said.

One thing is for sure, however, voters will vote on Snake-eyes Ted Strickland.

I don't think voters will take kindly to being lied to about Ted's real intentions. Telling us all along that he is against balancing the budget (against increased gambling period) with the gambling vice. Then doing an about face on the issue.

This is Strickland's "read my lips" moment that he won't be able to hide from.

The short sightedness of the Strickland administration is staggering.

Now we will pay more to service our debt. Yes, the debt that politicians are addicted to with your tax money.

"The lower a state's credit rating, the more expensive it becomes to borrow money to finance a variety of infrastructure projects."

"Moody's analysts noted that Ohio has a strong history of reducing spending to respond to economic challenges but said the state is increasingly using one-time cash solutions to fill continuing budget obligations."

Which makes one wonder what happens the next time we have to deal with the budget again. Will there be massive spending cuts or massive tax increases (driving more people to Florida and Texas).

My guess is, if the dems are in control, there will be massive tax increases. We all saw how frightened Strickland became when little old librarians got mad at him. He will continue to try to make Ohio into Las Vegas.

If the GOP is running the state government, who knows? If it's the old low tax, low spending GOP we'll be in good shape. If it's Bob Taft's GOP.....well I'm not going there, it's too nice of a day to get mad.

Never trust the government

Strickland's latest deal with taking money from the blind reminds me of a few other under handed dealings recently, but in local government.

1. Federal Hocking Local School district's 20 year bond was about to be paid off. 20 years ago there was a tax levy voted on to pay off the bond. You'd think that after the bond was paid, the tax payers' tax rates would reduce the amount that corresponds with the tax for the bond, right? Wrong. The school board moved inside millage to outside millage and the state kicked in the rest. So, not only did the local tax payers receive a massive tax increase without a vote....the State of Ohio's (funded by taxpayers) costs increased to fund the school district.

2. Troy Township (in Athens county) did not have enough money in their roads and bridge account to pay for all the road work they desired to do. So, instead of deciding not to do so much road work, they raided the Cemetery fund! Took money that people specifically voted a tax on themselves to keep up the township's cemeteries. The State Auditor did not catch this, by the way.

3. Then we have Strickland doing the same thing with money that folks paid into a fund for a specific purpose, yet he chooses to ignore the will of the people and spend it as he sees fit.

Just a few of the many abuses of our tax dollars in Ohio. The media is no where to be found with most of the local issues / abuses that abound. About all the "reporting" they do is cut and paste Congressmen's press releases when it shows up in their in-boxes.

The leap the Ohio GOP won't make

Here's a press release from the Ohio GOP. It criticizes Strickland for not filling Lee Fisher's spot when he resigned being the Department of Development Director.

This criticism would be valid if the DOD was actually a good thing for Ohio's economy. It's not. It's a tax sucking machine that doles out your tax money to those in touch with the right bureaucrats.

The market would do much better at knowing what and where to build businesses based on the wants, needs and desires of the market place.

The DOD is a pipe-dream of quasi communists who want to "plan" our economy for us.

The GOP needs to call for the elimination of the DOD, not the filling of the director's position.

Strickland stealing from the blind!

One would think that when you buy your vehicle license and choose to pay an extra $1 to help with a fund for child blindness, well, the money would be spend for blindness programs.

Not so when Governor Strickland gets his hands on it. He used the money to balance the Ohio budget.

He also raided the organ donation fund!

This is money that people choose to specifically fund the stated / specific purpose, not balance the state's budget.

State government took from funds to prevent blindness and promote organ donations in order to balance the budget.

Millions of Ohio motorists were blindsided by a June 9 raid on $2.7 million they had voluntarily paid to thwart blindness in children and help solve the critical shortage of organ donations.

The Save Our Sight fund relies on the generosity of Ohio motorists who are asked if they would like to contribute $1 to the fund when applying for or renewing license plates. Likewise, when motorists apply for or renew their driver's licenses, they are given an opportunity to donate $1 to the Second Chance Trust Fund.

State's unemployment rate rises to 11.2%

Ohio democrat governors are disasters....even more so than Taft......

Our last dem governor (Celeste) had an unemployment rate of 14.2 and our current dem governor (Strickland) is at 11.2%


COLUMBUS -- Ohio's unemployment rate ticked up a notch to 11.2 percent in July, another level not seen for more than a quarter century.

Last month's rate was up from June's 11.1 percent and was 4.5 percentage points higher than the July 2008 rate of 6.7 percent.

Spokesman Brian Harter with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says the last time the state had unemployment of 11.2 percent was in August 1983.

This is the problem with liberals.....or big spenders....liberal or conservative. You can have all the so called, alleged, relative, "good intentions" in the world, but if you don't have the money for the program, it's just vote buying on credit.

The good thing about the state of Ohio is it's balanced budget requirement. The federal government is where the liberals really shine. They can actually print money and invent it out of thin air to fund their schemes. The problem, of course, is the inflation and higher taxes it causes in the future.

Kasich's running mate

Since John Kasich does not have the perfect past when it comes to the 2nd Amendment, one would think that he has to name a strong pro-gun / freedom running mate.

This is desperately needed due to Strickland's good NRA rating.

Also, it's a mistake to think that ignoring the assault weapons ban vote in Kasich's past and counting on Strickland's current unpopularity to carry the day for the next GOP Governorship.

This one anti-gun vote needs talked about now, not swept under the rug. Because if it's not dealt with now, it'll be dealt with during a general election.

One thing Kasich can do to make gun owners feel reassured is by naming a pro-gun Lieutenant Governor candidate...one with a known and verifiable voting record.
