The insanity of minimum wage laws

Mises.org story here

Barry Orwell

Orwellian talk is alive and well.

obama says he created OR saved (you can't qualify this, so you can put any number you want after "saved") 1 million jobs.

However, the unemployment rate is the highest it's been in 26 years @ 9.8%. Remember, this 9.8% is just the number of people on unemployment. It does not count those that have "timed out" of our socialist system. Some speculate that the real number of unemployed is around 25%.

So, I can say, with a straight face (since the media is letting barry do it) that I saved 20 jobs yesterday. No, you can't measure it and I can't prove it. However, it sure works when bad unemployment numbers come out and I can use this to deflect some of the criticism....with, of course, the lap dog media.

When the stories should be about verifiable unemployment numbers increasing. The media use barry's spoon fed story about creating or saving jobs as a headline, then put the real story buried deep in this story about unemployment rising. Even Fox News fell for this one.

On another note, how did barry "save" these jobs? Put it in a different but still accurate perspective. What would you think if I stole $25,000 from you and gave it to others (you know, my friends and supporters) and called it "saving" jobs. That's exactly what Charlie Wilson and our mistake in chief has done to you and your kids / grandchildren. We'll be paying for his payoff of his supporters with your money for generations.

Why not an abortionist?

Below is a story about Ohio having a little difficulty finding professional help with their executions. Here's an idea. We know one group of "physicians" that have no qualms about violating the Hippocratic oath. They've thought of all kinds of creative ways to kill people. I'm sure they can find a way to kill a grown man, tied to a gurney and actually outside of the womb.

The strange thing is, for some reason we want to be "humane" in how we kill killers, yet we could care less how we kill innocent babies.

Ohio struggles to find doctors to offer execution advice

COLUMBUS -- Finding medical professionals willing to advise Ohio on the best way to put condemned inmates to death is proving difficult because of ethical and professional rules, the state's top attorney said.

The rules -- which generally prohibit doctors, nurses and others from involvement in capital punishment -- are deterring those professionals from speaking publicly or privately about alternatives to the state's lethal injection process, Attorney General Richard Cordray said.

"A small number of promising leads have emerged, but identifying qualified medical personnel willing and able to provide advice to the state regarding lethal injection options continues to be challenging and time-consuming," Cordray said in the Friday filing in U.S. District Court.

Sweet gun

If you are thinking about buying your son or grandson a pistol (if not you should be, unless you actually want to raise a pansy democrat), here's the perfect .22 caliber pistol.

Walther also makes a gun almost identical to this except in the .380 caliber, making it almost suitable for a concealed carry gun.

I can attest to the fact that this gun (P22) is very reliable and accurate. You can ask one of the squirrels in my freezer.

Meigs democrats and Cordray

Pomeroy Daily Sentinel story below.

A couple of thoughts.

  1. So Cordray is pro-death penalty as well as pro-gun? Yet the Ohio GOP wants us to support Mike DeWine for the Republican Attorney General nominee over Dave Yost? This makes absolutely no sense. Cordray is no raving lunatic typical democrat. Mike DeWine and his anti-gun voting record will have no chance against Cordray. And, well, why would republicans vote for a pretend republican that sounds like Ronald Reagan when he's campaigning, but votes like Ted Kennedy when we was in Washington? The Ohio GOP must think we can't remember when DeWine was our Senator. Dave Yost is the only choice for the GOP nomination. If we're voting in a GOP primary, I suspect that people will vote for the real GOP member, not the fake.
  2. Remember when Debbie Phillips was running for the 92nd district and every other word out of her mouth was "Ted Strickland" this or that? Why doesn't she remind everyone that she and Ted are tied at the hip now? Could it be she doesn't want to have the same fate he will have at the polls in 2010?
BTW, this is another story / example of the media just taking the dems talking points and making a story out of it...passing it off as news. However, it's hard to blame poor Brian Reed.....he's the reporter and photographer for most of the stories in the Sentinel. If he's like most Meigs countians, he'd rather be doing almost anything than sitting through a democrat dinner.

Cordray keynotes Kennedy Day dinner; A.G. back from Supreme Court arguments in Spizak case
by Brian J. Reed

MIDDLEPORT — Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, just back from arguing a Cuyahoga County murder case before the U.S. Supreme Court, addressed Meigs County Democrats Saturday at the party’s annual Kennedy Day Dinner.

State Rep. Debbie Phillips, D-Athens, introduced Cordray. Party Chairman Henry Hunter served as master of ceremonies at the Riverbend Arts Council.

Cordray appeared before the Supreme Court panel on Oct. 14, to argue that the death sentence of a man convicted in a Cleveland triple murder should be reinstated. It was Cordray’s first time before the U.S. high court as Ohio’s lead attorney, but not the first in his career. He argued five other cases before his election to state office.

Frank Spizak, described by the Associated Press as a flamboyant neo-Nazi, was convicted of murdering three men at Cleveland State University 25 years ago.

Cordray told justices during oral arguments that Spisak had a fair trial and deserves death and urged the high court to reverse a federal appeals court ruling that found Spisak's trial lawyer was ineffective and that his jury received faulty sentencing instructions.

The Attorney General used his experience last week as an example of the work he does as Ohio’s top legal official. His office oversees the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, and he also discussed the close relationship between state and local law enforcement, training programs and undercover investigations.

Cordray also promoted the AG’s office’s consumer protection services, and the toll-free number consumers can call if they feel they have been subject to consumer fraud: (800) 282-0515.

In her remarks prior to introducing the Attorney General, Rep. Phillips focused on signs of economic recovery in the region, but also acknowledged the impatience of some that the economy has not recovered sooner.

She noted that all three districts will receive extra state funding and stimulus money, and that recent legislation relating to school funding has placed Ohio’s public schools “on track to being constitutional.”

Phillips noted that the final phases of the Nelsonville Bypass, which got under construction last week, are the largest state transportation project funded by federal stimulus funds, and noted recent permit approvals for the American Municipal Power plant to be built in Meigs County is another sign of economic progress.

Hunter pointed to a reduction in home foreclosure rates and a recent boost in the stock market, and commended President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders for their work in advancing the cause of universal health care.

Swine flu is Obama's fault

Remember when the democrats and the media tried to blame the lack of flu vaccines on G. W. Bush in 2004?

One example here.

Why aren't they blaming obama for the current flu "epidemic"?

Now it's just a "limited supply".

Extending the Recession Indefinitely

Mises.org story here

"Subsidize unemployment: Any subsidization of unemployment (via unemployment 'insurance,' relief, etc.) will prolong unemployment indefinitely, and delay the shift of workers to the fields where jobs are available.""

Is the Ohio GOP going to blow another one?

Are they going to force Mike DeWine on us? Especially when we have a great candidate in Dave Yost?

Yes, the same Mike DeWine that is anti-gun. Do the establishment GOP think we are so stupid that we can't read the American Rifleman and see that the NRA will endorse Richard Cordray....especially if running against DeWine? Is the establishment GOP dumb enough to think that we'll just vote for DeWine because he's a Republican (RINO)? I believe they are and I don't think we will.

If it's DeWine vs. Cordray, Cordray wins......unless it's 1994 all over again. I just don't see pro-gun voters voting for a pretend Repbulican when they have a pro-gun candidate to vote for.

All of this is why it's important that Dave Yost raises money. The GOP in Columbus wants Dave out and Mike in. Yes, it's a wonder they win any elections.

Dave Yost is pro-gun, pro-life and pro-death penalty. Sounds like a great attorney general candidate to me!

Dave is having a fund-raiser in Athens here's the invitation. If you can't make it, you can donate to a conservative candidate in Dave Yost. See below.

Dear Friends,

We sense a growing enthusiasm that our Republican Party is poised for a strong comeback in next year’s elections. People like the idea of a "Fresh Start" statewide ticket, and we fully expect Dave Yost to be part of it.

Dave Yost is in his third term as Prosecutor in Delaware County, just north of Columbus. In the race for Attorney General, Dave has already visited over 70 counties this year.

Dave’s campaign is about returning the Attorney General’s office back to the basics of law and order. The race for Ohio’s top law enforcement job is all about justice for Ohio families. As a working prosecutor, Dave’s record demonstrates that he knows how to get the job done.

Please join us as we welcome Dave on October 13th to our home. Details are as follows:

FEDERAL FUNDS AVAILABLE TO HELP SEPTIC SYSTEMS

I wonder why the federal government thinks its their job to make sure septic systems are working? Is there anything the federal government is not involved in?

Here we have Congressman Zach Space ensuring those that don't keep their septic systems in working order.....get some of your money to fix it.

And those of us that keep our septic systems pumped and in working order.....well, you get to pay for those that don't.

Sort of like bank bailouts.

Could someone please show me, in the Constitution, where spending federal tax dollars on local septic tanks is allowable?

Another dead coyote

Another good coyote video

How I'm voting on the statewide issues

Issue 1: NO, this does not belong in our state's Constitution, which is a long term document. This issue deals with a temporary situation. When the temporary situation is over, the amendment will still be in the Constitution. Our state's Constitution should be for long term guidance, not short term desires.. Also, Ohio can't afford to go $200,000,000 in debt, no matter how noble the cause.

Issue 2: Reluctantly YES. reluctantly because the need for such an amendment is stupid. However, the lilly livered animal worshipers will spend and spend until they make us all meat free. The main problems I have with this Issue is: If it's really to circumvent a threatened "humane" society push for another ballot initiative to really make it difficult to farm in Ohio......why give the "humane" society a seat on this board at all? The "humane" society is about as un-Ohioan as they come. We shouldn't codify their existence in our Constitution. You see why I said reluctantly.

Issue 3: NO, we do not need further / expanded gambling in Ohio. There are many reasons one should oppose this social leach of a vice. The most recent example of the corrosiveness of gambling is watching our Governor. He was once 100% against gambling...very recently. However, the empty promise of millions of dollars from gambling to fund the state government has made our use to be devout anti-gambling Governor start rolling the dice with our future. One of the only things I agreed with Mr. Strickland with was this issue, until he did an about face. It's a sad thing to behold.

Here's a link with the ballot language and the (official) pros / cons of each initiative

It's Jimmy Stewart's fault

No, not our State Senator. I'm referring to the actor. He's the cause of our financial problems. Or at least, the thought process that he espoused in "It's a wonderful life".

He didn't have enough money in the bank to pay his obligations. (just like our modern banks) Yet, for some reason, we think he's the good guy in this movie.

If we had a few more Mr Henry Potters in this country, we never would have had our banks fail.

One last thing, we need to get rid of the government run FDIC insurance. Why should the banks be good stewards with your money when they know the government (taxpayers) will bail them out after they make risky decisions.

Obama, the Marxist coddler

Again, Obama and his pal Marxist Chavez need to keep their collective (pun intended) noses out of Honduras' business.

If any crime deserves the death penalty, it's this one

So, of course, it's plea bargained to life with a chance for parole!

"POMEROY — Charles Williams admitted to the robbery and murder of Doris Jackson, a longtime family friend, to a three-judge panel Wednesday.

Jackson was reported missing from her Tuppers Plains home in late February. Three days later, her body was found in her dining room beneath a pile of her personal belongings. Her car, stolen along with firearms, jewelry, cash and other items, was recovered at an apartment complex on Richland Avenue in Athens.

Jackson was strangled and bludgeoned to death. When investigators discovered her body, her throat had been cut and her hands bound with a telephone cord. Williams admitted yesterday that he, alone, was responsible for Jackson’s death, but said Garnes had helped plan the robbery which went awry on Feb. 23, and that two others had transported him to Jackson’s home and helped dispose of evidence of the robbery and murder.

Only Williams and Garnes have been charged in the case."

WHY? I hope that names were supplied to law enforcement on these two before any plea bargain was agreed to.

Williams deserves the death penalty, Garnes needs life without parole and the unnamed other two need life sentences.
