Think locally, again

Here is a Marietta Register oped piece. I can't help but agree 100%

Marietta has a 1.7% income tax. I can't think of any higher in southeastern Ohio. Not even Leningrad on the Hocking.

While there were Republicans railing against the incessant spending of Congressman Charlie Wilson, President Obama, et al., why were they not railing against the 1.7% income tax? Let's be consistently against excessive taxes anywhere they appear from, Washington, Columbus or Marietta.

If the GOP wants to be against high taxes and spending, that's great (especially after the tax Taft years), but GOP members should set an example at the local level in our finance committees.

Why not eliminate the income tax altogether. Just think of the folks that don't move into Marietta because of the income tax. That reason would be gone. More citizens, more businesses, more income from property tax and sales taxes. Seems like a no brainer......as long as the sales and property taxes stay within reason to fund the basics and the basics alone.

Private enterprise can do wonders if the government doesn't take all it's money.
